Any Information on Unity?

Nothing much but speculations so far. Some things I've read on GA that are picked up from Minter himself posting somewhere, is that it will not have same kind of shooter mechanics as Rez/PD games have, that most graphics will be algorithmically generated, that he can expect any kind of support from Lionhead team as he needs. He will be brainsorming with Peter M. quite often about the game.

Another thing that was mentioned is that music is going to be 'very, very good'. One band was rumoured (I have no clue from what source) and that is a rock/psychodelic band 'Ozric Tentacles'.

Supposedly new Edge will have (or has) screens and more details from it. See here:

Hehe, I still cant get over the fact that Jeff Minter has two sheep with his favourite called is 'Flossy' ... I absolutely loved Tempest 2000 on the Atari Jaguar and I am sure his next game is going to be awesome!

Wow... Weird, uncomprehensible, but it looks well sexy... Not sure what that's all about though, looks like a screen saver more than anything...

I believe it is the Phoenix game model. :)

I know all the info is probably on the links already provided in this thread, but what's this game all about? And i guess it's a GC exclusive?

So... I was reading that Jeff Minter of Tempest 2000 fame has a new game in development for GameCube called Unity. With his trackrecord for shooters, trippy graphics, and creative audio, I was thinking this might be as close to a Rez 2 experience as we're going to get for a while.

Minter's game are so cool and have that nice old school feeling about them. If it's of the same quality as Tempest 2000, it's already bought...

I remember Tempest... it was Jaguar's "Halo"....

There was a movie where Minter demoed a build of Unity at a rave somewhere in the UK. He was standing there with a wave-bird, smoking, playing, it looked like flying through a tunnel of colors and SFX. He was doing something, but it was impossible to recognize any sort of gameplay. The whole affair is very weird and tripping so far. I am still not sure, what to think about Unity at the moment, interesting stuff though ...

Sorry for not posting the link to the movie, but it was a few month ago and I was not able to find it again.

I think REZ still looks better in my eyes, maybe it's the stile... but those IGN pictures aren't exactly amazing...

You're just jealous ;)

Seriously, here's a IGN preview:

...
The little (as in practically none) information that has been released about Unity depicts the title as the seamless merging of aural, visual, and gameplay experiences. Minter is apparently trying to blur the line between playing a game and an instrument. It's unknown how exactly Unity works.

What is known is that Unity is an abstract 3D shooter that seems to that takes place in swirling, morphing vortex-like wormholes (it's really indescribable). From what footage has leaked, it looks as though the environment changes in accordance to the games music.
...
Ultimately, Unity is an experience that must be witnessed -- it's near impossible to describe.

What could make it stand out, is the merging between sound, action and graphics...

Rez looks pretty stale in screenshots too. These kinda games are more interesting in motion particularly when you have a controller in your hand. ;)

Until it proves itself different from both REZ and the Frequency/Amplitude seires ways of thinking and provides something completely different, it all sounds like a mixture of the 2 above games with lots of motion blur... And pretty swirly lights...

Sorry, did i ruin the cheery atmosphere?

T2K is still the ultimate 'zoned-in' shooter.

Unity is supposed to be the point at which Minter's love of lightsynths and zoned shooters converge. Personally I can't wait to see it, although I have no idea what to expect. But it's impressed Peter Molyneux so far.

It's one of the things that tipped me over the edge to buy a Gamecube. (Unity, Pikmin, and Monkey Flight kind of sums it up).

Two more interesting things:
- total production cost for Unity might be very low. I'm not sure how much input he's had from Lionhead, but so far it sounds like 'Jeff for 2 years, and a GC devkit' and not much else.
- it may be the kind of game that sells well to Japan
