AntiAliasing in nextgen ?

I just don't see them going to a higher res with a higher amount of fsaa samples and be able to leap over the best of the pc titles currently out by a large margin .


IF they stuck to 640x480 and the lvls of fsaa on last gen hardware then mabye . But not what they are doing
 
even 4x AA should be doable... no?

even then, there's always 2x "temporal" which shouldperform nicely at 1280x720.... And on t.v. it should look bloody brilliant!

I know D3 does when I hook it up to the tv (turning on 2xMSAA even)

Yeah, I´m an optimist, but I´m least I´m not going to the far end of pessimism. Like Chris Rock at the Oscars said, If what you want is FF FMV and all you can get is slightly improved HL2/Doom 3 graphics, then WAIT!!

actually 2x doom 3 would be pretty good. its just that half life 2 looks like what unreal tournament 2003 should have looked like.

and why not? unreal chamionship looks better than almost any pc first person shooter excluding far cry and doom 3.

theres only 1 pc racer id classify as having good graphics, thats xpand rally.

youguys judge graphics based on how much aa and af it has appied to it an dhow high the res is. u guys play these god awful ugly looking games that are low poly as hell covered in ugly ass blurry textures and up the aa and af and think the game looks good. :rolleyes:
 
Simon, I think some people are confused about real Temporal AA, and ATI Temporal AA. So now people are drawing artificial distinctions between temporal multisampling (Temporal AA) and jittering sample positions between frames (ATI "Temporal AA")
 
XBox and Ps2 already have temporal AA (ATI style), it's called interlacing.

PS: for the distinction between temporal antialiasing and anti-temporal aliasing, thanks to ATI for blurring the line.

For the record: Temporal Antialiasing IS NOT the stuff ATI is touting.

I'm going to propose a new term, "sequential AA", to replace ATI's "temporal AA", inspired by the "sequential colour" schemes used in single-chip DLPs (and old colour-TV prototypes). :D

Um no ... no it really doesn't . It looks like a blury mess and while it may have more polygons on the screen at once than half life 2 its textures don't compare .

Yes all 3 make a game look better than 640x480... Or are you telling me that unreal championship woulnd't look better with fsaa and aniso along with a higher res ? .

Pc games are lower in polygons than a ps2 game but the textures are certianly not blurry . Perhaps you just need a better video card .

Half life 2 on my x800xt pe at 1600x1200 with 4x fsaa temporal and 16x aniso looks leaps and bounds better than any ps2 or xbox game and it runs at 70fps +
 
high poly looks better than higher res textures. and half life 2 would look impressive if it came out when unreal 2k3 did. the only thing half life 2 does better than unreal 2k3 is water. both have shit lighting and shadowing, mediocre geometry detail, and semi high res textures. theres no replacement for geometric detail. its sad that state of the art pc games push far fewer polys than games on 4 and 5 year old consoles.

of course unreal championship would look better with aa and af, my point is aa and af dont make an ugly game good. and most pc games are ugly.

geometry is teh win!


Maybe it's just me, but those UC2 screenshots look like they were taken with a special xbox system ;) (loads more memory). But anyhow, point taken with the geometry.

Although you'd probably best be comparing UC2 to UT2k4 instead...no?
 
uc looks far far far better than ut2k4. nothing better than getting sniped in onslaught because the fog that they add in EVERY SINGLE MAP prevents u from seeing your enemy because your at a slightly different angle. god i wish ut2k4 was on a better engine. the game would be so much more enjoyable if the netcode didnt suck and the phyics system wasnt so crappy. whoever invented interpolation should be shot right up his pee hole.

on a side note, if more pc games actually had good graphics, more people would probly upgrade. but most people dont care to pay 200 to 500 dollars to simply add aa and af to mediocre looking games.

There are maps on half life 2 that look leaps and bounds better . But i'm not going to turn this into a flaming war .

Also please fix your pics , they break the thread and cause un needed scrolling

56kers are the reason interpolation still exists. u should all die.
That's a bit unfair - some places may not offer value-for-money broadband.

Anyway, I must agree with jvd: Tabbed browsing is a much better way to compare the shots.
