Activision to release 40 games for 360 in 2006

What the f.... doesn't it take like 2 years to make a game?

so they have 80 dev teams working on the X360 alone?

can't be right.

Probably some "action pack" including space invaders, paratrooper and ALL those other classics you always wanted but never asked for.

40 does seem a lot when EA has 25 (6 in 2005) in the pipe (although that may not include Madden 2006 and 2007, so that could inflate the number for Madden, Live, etc). Although it does seem Activision has some output ability:
In other next-generation console and Activision-related news, Kotick said the company plans on releasing a whopping 40 games for the Xbox 360 during 2006, including its anticpated free-roaming Western, Gun. That's over two times as many as it released for the current-generation Xbox in 2002, the year after its launch. Obviously some titles are ports/cross platform, like Gun. So taking an Xbox1 game and making it available on the 360, while nice, is not necessarily a next gen game--although the extra games don't hurt.

Anyhow, it does seem MS has a leg up on the game library issue. If EA and Activision reach their targets that is 65 games by the end of 2006. I wonder if these numbers from Activision are included in the "160+" number from MS?

Most of them will probably be quick ports and look like high res Xbox games like Gun and the new Tony Hawk. How many games are they going to release for current gen in 2006?

I the real crux of the thread is that regardless of what quality these games end up being, the incredible software support building for the 360 is really undeniable. All publishers will have their ups and downs with quality control but its clear the activision is committed to the 360 big time, which is good for 360 owners way past 2006.

Well you better bet that the PS3 will probably get most of those games too. But it is good to see that the 360 is getting support.

Activision is a publisher, not a dev, so I don't see how it's all that far fetched.

They are releasing a bunch of small games too it seems, like Poker and other casino type games. I read their quarterly report and it showed a bunch of partnerships will smaller developers to develop these type of games.

----------------------------------
* On May 3, 2005, Activision announced that it acquired game developer
Toys For Bob. Activision has worked with Toys For Bob since 2002,
most recently on Madagascar, which is based on DreamWorks Animation's
feature film.

* On May 25, Activision announced that it acquired game developer
Beenox, Inc. The acquisition further bolsters Activision's internal
development capabilities by providing it with a foothold in the
Canadian province of Quebec, one of the fastest growing development
talent pools in North America.

* On June 9, Activision announced a strategic alliance with Harrah's
Entertainment, Inc. to develop and publish video games based on the
popular World Series of Poker Tournament.

All I can say is.... Does anybody else live in the US (maybe CAN? Not sure) and have a Target store?

There's a section that says "XBOX" and half of the rack is filled with Gamecube games or N DS games! There's another section that is THREE TIMES as big that says "Playstation" and it's filled with PS1 and PS2 games.

(Obviously mostly PS2 but you'll still find the odd PS1 game here and there.)

If you go to other stores like Best Buy, you'll see more Xbox games, but still.. the sections are at least 2-1. Same with video rental stores like Hollywood Video and Blockbuster.

Thats why the X360 needs Xbox ports, it needs PS2 ports.. I mean we don't want to get into an Atari 2600 situation where there's just so much crap that its hard to find the good stuff, but on the other hand... that's why backwords compatibility IS a big problem for the X360.

It's not just about the availability of games.. really, how many games does any average gamer purchase? But it's about product placement! When stores have to devote 2 or 3 racks to the PS2 or PS3 and they only devote 1 or 1/2 to the Xbox or X360, then you've got a huge amount of store space that is essentially "painted" with Sony PS logos and a very small amount of space representing the green X logo.
