Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War in-game pics

I wish they would make use of all weapons stores on each jet though. I mean why am I only able to load my F/A-18E with only 2 different kinds of weapons when it has 11 hardpoints? Also they need to improve on the combat situations. Why in the world is a T-1 that looks to be flying CAP with Aim-9s? You don’t CAP with trainer jets, you don’t put trainer jets in combat, and you don’t go perform cap with just sidewinders what happens if someone with a Slammer or archer comes along? Are you going to ask him to hold his fire until he gets within range of your winders to be fair?... I know this is an arcade sim though... maybe I’m being too hard on it...

this isn't Falcon 4.0 :D

I miss playing Janes Longbow 2.0 ...

Would be cool to get into a flight sim game again.

Anyone have a link to a good review of Ace Combat 4? That way I can consider 5, how it's missions were and joystick support etc.

I loved flying that AH-64 chopper using my joystick with fire buttons throttle everything.

Speng.

Are the shadows on the mountains prebaked into the texture?
I'd say unless this is running on PS3, they most likely are. The game WILL however have realtime day/night cycle and weather change during the missions. That was reported in last interview in Famitsu.

Just to give you an example of what kind of game you're discussing here - planes in AC4 carried around 60 missiles of EACH type

So yes, you could say you're being 'too hard' on it :p

No id doubt it, they are what? real time? In ace combat 4 you could fly to 300 or so AGL and see the shadow of the mountains cast on the rudders and what not. Look impressive to me.

oh thank you man. I was sick to see that shitty flash-embedded-qt video at the offical site.

Downloading...

These shots illustrate the 'magical' secret of good lighting.
Good lighting makes everything perceptivly better.
Even if the game don't pushes particulary high polycount or texturing wonders. the lighting IS the image.

thumbs up.

very nice indeed. It's a shame only Ace Combat seems to be pushing the envelop in this genre. I've been searching for something as good on the PC, but haven't found any (for the record, it should be a simulator, not arcadish). I remember having some of the best gaming moments playing F22-Raptor online :D In fact, the thing that AC5 is more arcade than anything will probably let me pass off this one just like I did with AC4. It's a shame really, there consoles are really missing a good flight-simulator with some high quality joystick... If a game like this belongs on a console is something else though...

Slightly OT: Does anyone know of a good flight sim with online modes? I'm thinking of something like F22-Raptor, but simply newer and with equivilent fighters. Falcon 4.0 is quite old aswell. Having spoken to some shops, I heard that Falcon 5.0 is the only anticipated sim coming soon... :?:

Falcon 5.0 is about the only thing that could get me excited about PC gaming again.

Falcon 4.0 was the first Falcon sim to take advantage of 3D accelerators (full graphics processors with geometry processing were not avalible in 1998 when 4.0 shipped), although 4.0 did even better with geometry / processing / T&L capable GPUs.

I'd like to see what could be achived in a Falcon 5.0 sim that takes full advantage of R420 / NV40 level VPUs, and scales nicely with R500 / NV50 VPUs.

I suggest you Lock-on: Modern Air Combat.
I must warn you about the fact that this game must be played via the ubi.com portal, and about the fact that this portal is what we can call....PURE EVIL. :devilish:
(just read ubisoft forum)
