a few 3DO questions

The first thing I notice about Doom SNES are the missing ceiling and floor textures. This makes it reminiscent of Wolf3D.

I reckon its because the tv is interlaced, if you look at digitized vhs its also 320x240
Good point. It could just be referring to the TV encoding step.

I'm not quite sure exactly what hardware was on the cart, I heard the SuperFX was basically just a faster-clocked SNES CPU-compatible processor

The Super FX chip has 4 RAM banks of 64 Kb each, or a total of 256 kilobytes of RAM.

I don't know when the first competent Doom port happened. Did PS1 pull it off? Doom64 is awesome but isn't the same game and has some significant enhancements.

According to the articles here, the first console port to actually pull everything off identical to the PC was the Xbox version! Everything else prior to that had something removed, be it music, sprites, levels or weapons. A lot of them seem to fall under the "rushed cash in" category though..

The 3DO version of Doom had the best music (it was in Redbook), but I lost the disc and can't rip it to my PC. I believe the reason the 3DO version had such shitty frame rate was because it was always accessing the CD for the music.

I'd have to say of the pre-Xbox versions I liked the 3DO and Jaguar versions the best, even though they weren't very close to the PC original. The PS1 version's artwork looked different.

One good thing about the Super NES version was map accuracy.

The 32X version had a decent frame rate, but the graphics sucked ass, and it didn't have any more levels than the Jaguar version.

At least the Jaguar version was done by id themselves has good graphics, and the 3DO version has excellent graphics, the marine's head blows up better than the PS1 version and it has a CD-quality soundtrack.

Doom 64 is my fav console Doom because it doesn't try and fail at copying the perfect PC version (that I played to death). See the shitty Hexen N64 port for more of that. Instead, the Doom 64 people went their own route with making a Doom-style game. It looks and feels a lot like Doom, but it's also quite original at the same time. And it was visually impressive with its lighting effects and fogging. It also has a horror-style approach with the ambient audio which I thought was neat. ;)

Quake 2 N64 did this too. It's not even the same game really. Quake 1 N64 though is basically an identical port with some things simplified but it's close enough for me.

While I have some 3DO peoples' attention, what are your favorite games for it?
