9700: 2D Quality/ Performance and 30 bit color

How about 2D Quality on the 9700? Is on on par or better than the 8500? (Try 1600x1200 for comparison, most cards nowadays look good at anything below that.)

And how about performance? Could someone run XPBench (www.stardock.com or just use a search engine.) and Dacris Benchmark (use search engine).
The 8500 lags behind the Ti4x00 by great margin and some said that the 9700 was even slower than the 8500 so I'm a bit worried here...

And finally what about 30 bit color? Is it usable by default? Are there any demos or plugins for proggys etc?
If possible benchmark the speed vs "normal" 24 bit color.

(And yeah I posted these question sonm rage 3D as well.)

rest of the specs please

btw that just what I get with my radeon 8500 on a 1.3 GHz Tbird (100 MHz FSB) and SDRAM
my GF4 on the other hands scores somewhere around twice as much

With a Ti4400 (OC 305/640), XP1900+ (KR7A-133), 512Mb DDR 2100, and Win2K I get:

Back as transparent: 59.833
47% visibility: 49.157
50% visibility: 49.015
100% visibility: 59.938
Overall layered windows score: 217
Overall benchmark score: 217

I hope ATi can fix this. They fixed the 8500 2D performance "a little bit" so I sure hope they can fix it properly this time. I mean ATi, 2D next gen hardware should = best 2D performance/quality next to parhelia at least.

xpbench is a pos. I never get the same numbers, I have had lows of 50, and hights of several hundred. Not from one run to another, but from one installation to another.

That's why I'm asking you guys to run Dacris as well.
But anyways, if you do multiple runs of XPBench you'll still see the trends:

As for Dacris it's almost even more pathetic.

(And no, it doesn't really matter that it's a LE, I compared it to a Ti4200. However I can tell you that comparing a non-LE to a Ti4600 will widen the gap even further.)

well with only one desktop active i get a score of 134 .... So you might want to check how your score is with two monitors up.. also if i take down my wall paper i get a higher score by 10-15 points .
