600,000 PS3's sold on European launch

Can anyone answer my question? This is the only site that has claimed 600k sold. With UK being the biggest market in EURO and with 165k sold there, that leaves 435k for the rest of EURO. With reports with only a decent consumer turnout in the first few days (by the time the article was posted), it's a bit hard for me to accept this.

I need proof ;)

600,000 consoles vendues en deux jours en Europe!

you really think sony COULD sell out when they shipped 1.3 mill consoles to europe? (i just trew a number there)

Definitely! But not at this price. ;)

@Hardknock: Wii is taking all regions for now. ;) In future, we'll just have to wait and see ...

True, but did you hear all the horror stories about the PS3 and the launch? Xboat and that one dude standing in line? It went from the worst launch in recent history to the best. It's just crazy how the tables have turned.

Well there were a lot of preorders here (in Germany) so this figure is very achiechable imo with consoles sold in stores as well.

But since everyone tends to tell bad about the launch since the console was not sold out (because of no supply shortages) this of course might sound surprising for some (not for me ;) ).

Well executed by Sony. The tough part will be keeping a steady pace until right before the holiday season. The killer apps will be released in Oct-Dec as usual but I wonder if there are any futbol games available (or soon to be available) for the PS3? You european folk sure seem to love racing and futbol and that drives consoles as much as Madden football for the US.

Many sales are online now, why go waiting during hours in the cold? ;)
Doesn't surprise me, contrary to some of my fellow french citizens :)

Ok Sony... next time do an online launch on Playstation Home and Store (so there's no more waiting in the cold), plus a hip launch party if people sign up ;)

Not to be stingy but i'd rather have a real £2,000 Sonty Bravia for turning up to my console launch than a virtual one for my "Home"..

Home + real Bravias are not mutually exclusive though. You can still give them away to selected people at Home (based on different criteria, rather than time wasted in line). The virtual Bravias can be gifted with the real ones too.

Alternatively, they can give the Bravias away for the sign-up launch party.

In general, the Bravia give-away is a great move. Instead of spending on not so useful viral marketing campaigns, spend them on your own users to build loyalty.

Once again Sony's Europe = World - (North America + Japan + small parts of Asia). Great for them though.

I translat the numbers part:

In france the sale number confirmed by Georges Fornay is 78 K pS3 sold the first 2 days. France is behind England with 173 K sold but more than Spain (third) and Germany (Fourth) but numbers for spain and germany are not known. It is 24 % more than the PS2 sales (63 K the first 2 days). According to Fornay they expect to reach 100 k sold by next weekend for france
