.

I really can't believe anyone can seriously say this is going to be GOTY after seeing that trailer
I'm not proclaiming it to be anything, but damn, that was the coolest, best directed and coreographed videogame trailer I've seen in like - ages. How can anyone NOT be impressed by it, is beyond me.

If you look at it objectively, the MGS2 trailers were much better done, as were the ZoE2 trailers. This one was honestly sort of 'blah', maybe a HQ video will change my opinion, but still..

ZOE2 trailer was nothing special if you ask me. It was way too long, music did nothing for me, and it was basically a confusing mess. Yeah, it showcased excellent visuals, but as a trailer it wasn't much. First MGS2 trailer also is a bit too long if you look at it now. There's so much stuff in it that could have been left out and wouldn't lose any of it's impact. Just imagine watching an 8 minute trailer for a theatrical movie - would you actually like that?

MGS3 trailer is what movie teaser-trailers look like nowadays. It's short, explosive, looks plain cool, and gets you pumped up. Well, at least it did that to me, obviously not to everyone.

Maybe because you can't tell shit from that crappy video? The only impressive thing about it is the music.

What cybamerc said. ;)

Cool down MG kiddies. The trailer looks alright, if abit lacking visual clarity. I hope Kojima gives Snake and the rest of the crew, a few more poly pounds! :D MGS2 characters had a little too little polygons for me liking. Ingame are models are stiil acceptable, but when we get to cutscenes(not all), they look awkward.

MGS2 characters facial features are still kicking the crap from 99% games that are out today. The only games that compare favorably are basically those with pre-rendered backgrounds (RE, Onimusha) and those not released yet (Doom 3, SH3, etc) Not to mention that most of those games run at half the framerate MGS2 (and likely MGS3) does :\

Maybe because you can't tell shit from that crappy video?
Well, if I can see such details as fish swimming upstream, I'd say it's not *that* bad :p

I mean for the full models not just the face.

Even when we consider the faces, they look kind of stiffy. Just look at the beginning, the tanker, when Snake just landed, before/after(?) a codec with Octacon, it shows a close up of Snake face, before panning away. Looks weird imo. I duno, but it just look dead(?).

But the lack of sufficient character polygons is more worrying. Makes them look "blocky" when you see them upclose and moving about. Especially when you have those little arms/limp actions. Snake normal ingame moving model/animations, viewed from normal camera situation, are fine it has to be said.

I hope they can somehow find some powers of PS2 and bump up the polypounds, at least for the cutscenes. 8)

Chap, I agree with you. MGS2 characters leave something to be desired, but IMO, even as they are, they pretty much kick the crap out of most other games, in which character models (and especially their faces) are just terrible.

A game doesn't necessarily need huge poly'pounds' in characters to look good, witness Doom III and Halo 2 :)
Clever texturing can hide a slightly blocky leg or arm, and Snake's chiselled features are not a result of low polycount, i think.

The general impression is what counts, not if the character has 5000 or 10000 polygons. And to me the cutscenes in MGS2 (and MGS3) had a very good balance of great animation, effects and detailed models, put together with excellent direction. In my opinion, there is not yet anything in any platform that surpasses the overall impact generated (well, maybe Silent Hill 3 will come very close).

Bad examples. :p
D3 and Halo2 do da polyabumpmapaya~!!! Even so, i rather take more polygons over faked geometry. More polys give the feeling of "solid-ness"

and Snake's chiselled features
Not just his chiselled face, but the way it looks, the eyes, the motion are the weird.. not to mention he has a lil FFX-ness shakey limps.

What gave you the impression that I was talking about you? I would have thought it was pretty obvious that I was talking about Vince, who claimed the game was GOTY after seeing one trialer.

I didn't say I wasn't impressed by the video. I'm not really bothered about the video.

It was tongue-in-cheek; except the smilie looked tacky behind the "And it has ended part." Sort of reminded me of a chap post, so I had to refrain.

Games like MGS cant/shouldnt be online! It would loose its sheen if it is online....these kind of games are to be enjoyed offline!

What Deepak said. I hope if the game gets online aspect, it will be for some kind of two player co-op play, or something like that.

actually, I was under the impression it was a joke, it was hands down the most pointless and stupid trailor I have ever seen....

especially the opening, where he eats the snake, and lets out a roar..
muahhhh, I am manly, I just ate a non venomous snake that is very slow and had no chance against me.

Wow. I just downloaded the IGN trailer (31 MB) and it does leave some unanswered questions opened. Can't judge the graphics too well due to the bad quality video, but it does seem to look quite impressive from what can be seen. Can't wait for more info, that's for sure though.. 8)
