.

Well, it only became trendy because of SC, IMO. Well, all I can say is damn, the game looks great, I´m hoping for good screens to be released soon.

Take a close look at the end of the trailer with the close up on "Snake"....His right eye is missing. Big Boss wore an eye patch on his right eye....

It actually looks like it. You may be onto something here.

Alright, going to go out on a limb and say that this game is a prequel to MGS, and that you're playing as Big Boss or Solidus Snake in 'nam. The eye missing, the jungle/rambo attire, and the voice (diving off the waterfall, panting at the end) does NOT sound like David Hayte (or whatever his name was) at ALL.

So that's my theory :) Anyone else want to take a stab at speculation?

Solidus lost his eye during MGS2.

Don't think so, when/where/exactly? You see him in the flashbacks as President sporting two eyes, but the story can always adapt.

He loses it in the harrier, when Raiden shoots at him with a stinger missile. He then yells "He got my eye!" or something similar. After that he has a patch over that eye.

Odd, sort of like MGS does Vietnam
Nothing Odd about it. As a matter of fact, jungle setting was only not present in MGS and MGS2. MG1, MG2, even the gameboy MGS had it. It's jut back to roots for MGS, Id' say :)

Its clearly using the MGS2 engine, but it looks nice.
I very much doubt it's the same engine. How would they pull of the MGS2 room structure in a jungle-like setting? Besides, effects clearly look different here (fire and such) I think it's using souped up MGS2 engine (probably with the effects engine devised from ZOE2) or a completely new engine.

After all, who to heck cares. It looks absolutely awesome and that's all that matters to me.

Exactly, how could you even say this is odd? Or that people bring up Rambo? Why do I get the same feeling these people are the ones who don't understand MGS2 and can't understand why it's not a SC.

As usual, Kojima seems to have filled this with tangible realism thats second to none. I still can't get over how accurate this is: like the scene about 2/3rds the way threw where your above Snake in the river and he starts firing and you just hear the (correct) clicking sound of the AR15 from that distance. Or the fish trying to swim up river when Snake is being chased by the dogs... it's uncanny.

GOTY? you mean cinematics of the year

Your treading on thin ice Quincy :). Which makes me recall the Union Jack circa 1790's that states "Don't tread on me" with the snake above it.

EDIT: Actually there is a long standing American synergy with the Snake as a symbolic icon for resistence (as Issac Barre called the Sons of Liberty) against the tyrannical British. Even Benjamin Franklin once stated that we should repay the British by sending them Rattlesnakes... for they, as Solid current does, stood as a symbol of resistence and unity to defeat larger foes.

The parrallels are obviously intentional and it's quite interesting, just unfortunate that with todays generation nobody wants to assimilate knowledge or excogitate beyond if they can decapitate 10 enemy soldiers in the next room with a gernade. Because, who wants to think when we can blow some shit up...

Sales of MGS2:S for Xbox weren't that great, probably because Splinter Cell was released so close to MGS2:S's release.

That kind of stuff makes the games made by Kojima's team so beautiful to look at, IMO.

Agreed, also I think your correct concerning the engine. The lighting at the very end on Snake's face looks hellishly good IMHO. As goes the jungle foliage. Anyways, I'm getting carried away...

You can also see ICO-ish effect of sunlight filtering through the trees right before Snake jumps off the waterfall, fire lights reflections on the water, etc. Effects such as those were not present in MGS2.

Looks like Snake in Contra setting! I guess there will be no Metal Gear in this game...after all he cant fight Metal Gear in each and every game.....

BTW, looks awesome!

They need to change Snake Eater also..

There NEEDS to be another Metal Gear! I mean, come on!!

Snake Eater... I'm OK with that. I don't look for homoerotic euphemisms in everything, and 'Snake Eater' is the codename for the army rangers, which is what Big Boss was, btw. This could easily be a video of Big Boss fighting somewhere, mixed with scenes of Solid Snake fighting. There are visibly two character models in the game - one with, and one without the beard, one possibly not having an eye, which further suggests that it's the Big Boss.

looks like there are atleast two snake looks-like in video.....one who eats snake in the opening scene.....other who fires at wolves (?).....I am not 100% sure though....

I thought MGS: Twin Snakes was a bit of a dodgy name. But MGS3: Snake Eater....... It sounds like some sort of circus act or something

I really can't believe anyone can seriously say this is going to be GOTY after seeing that trailer  I'd expect it to be good obviously, and as Quincy says it'll have COTY tide up already  But surely we should, at least, wait until we see more then a small trailer before proclaiming a game GOTY ;)

HEY! The Rambo thingy was from me, but don't lump me together with those nay-sayers. I like MGS too ... the trailer happend to reminded me of the Rambo movies, one ronin blending in with the jungle, fighting a almost hopeless battle ... is the comparison so farfetched? Ok, the Rambo movies were corny, but I am sure Kojima-san will fix that ...
