3D Gaming Information (*spawn from Crysis 2*)

Color me confused. There is a setting in Crysis 2 for 3D. You guys are saying I still need some other software installed to actually use 3D on a 3DTV?

With regards to Crysis 2 specifically I don't think anyone other than the developers know at the moment. At least I don't recall them mentioning whether you will or won't need additional stuff when using the PC version with a 3D TV.

I'd imagine you shouldn't. ATI and I think Nvidia support HDMI 1.4a. So it should be able to natively support a 3D TV just like the console version, IMO.

SB

This is certainly what I'm hoping otherwise it puts the PC quite a bit behind the consoles in that sense.

I can understand them charging us as PC owners for the functionality of turning a native 2D game into a 3D game (something that NV/ATI have had to develop themselves as a value added feature and something I don't think you can do with consoles), but if the game comes with a native 3D setting that for consoles works on any 3d output device then it would be pretty out of order for PC games not to have free access to that as well.

You guys seem to be talking about solutions to turn 2D games into 3D were 3D wasn't the original intent of the game. My expectation of Crysis 2 was that itwould be "built in" and there was just an option in the menu to switch from 2D to 3D and in 3D, any 3D capable TV would render it as such.
I believe Crysis 2 will have built-in 3D for the PC version. However, it will be the cheap 2D+depth solution, so going 3D via the drivers will probably allow for a better stereoscopic experience (unless the PC version gets built-in true 3D, which shouldn't be too difficult to implement).

Found this quote about 3d in fable 3
"as well as a full 3-D functionality made possible by NVIDIA technology "

Lets hope nv arnt up to their old tricks

im using the iz3d drivers with one of the mitsubishi 3d rptvs and its pretty awesome actually when it works, like ct said theres alot of bugs in some games but the ones that do work work well.

Well, I just ordered two pairs of those anaglyph glasses for the hell of it. 6 euros with shipping so its not like its gonna kill me... so basically now I need to buy the iz3d drivers... and then what? What games should I try? Please do recommend if there´s anything semi working :D
I have a Radeon 5870 and a 30" apple cinema hd display. (it´s a pc computer, not a mac btw)

@mendel racing games and flightsims work particularly well
also fps but turn of the in game crosshair and use the driver supplied one (if iz3d do supply one, nv do)
serious sam has an anaglyph mode (no need for drivers)

I thought the IZ3D drivers for Anaglyph were free?

Oh, guess I don´t need to buy the drivers then :)

Anyways, I tried the iz3d driver (still without the glasses) and it turns out I get kicked by punkbuster. It says:

PB IMPORTANT: RESTRICTION: Multiple Direct3D loaded

I guess there´s no way around that. I´ll try making a problem ticket to evenbalance but I´m not too hopeful.

Response from Even Balance:

"IZ3D is not allowed and will need to be disabled while playing on PB enabled servers."

This would apply to any and all Punkbuster "enabled" games. This is a major problem if you ask me.

I get PB kicked for some some DirectX violation in Bad Company 2 when I use the ToMMTi tool to cap FPS at 30. It sucks and I certainly don't consider that cheating.

Because relief is fun ! ;p

Anaglyph destroys colours way too much to my taste though.

it was just a cheap and easy way to give pjbliverpool an idea of what 3d is like before he outlayed a lot of money
