1 pc for games at hi and recording....gpu?

oops I read your original post as gtx470 = 1.5x hd4850

ps: crash symbol, sound font ?

Software sampling/synths/midi? wut is this newfangled technology? :p complexity man, hear it! see it! feel it...patina! copper!

the 4850 has done a fine job...with the new processor. I'm not anal about maxed settings. i just don't like playing on medium or med low... I'll read up more and go from there. mb the 460 will be fine...

i've been ati since r300 but i'd like to think i'm not biased. :LOL: i wonder if amd is the top performer if nvidia is the better buy nowadays...however perf/watt is somewhat relevant to elec bills.

Voodoo 3 -->
TNT2 -->
Radeon 7500 (waved a dead chicken over it after i fried it...fixed; copper sheets from ACE still glued for xxxtreem oc) -->
Radeon 9800pro (wow - then killed it...heatsink fell off, something about toothpaste and college dorms, don't ask...) -->
9800 pro 128bits (got for free from misleading now out of business amazon seller) -->
X1950xt (lackluster) -->
HD4850

If you go for a GTX 460 get a model with at least 1GB of memory and maybe a factory overclocked one?

If you want to future-proof for 1.5 years it is a tough call. I am going to assume that you don't have SLI capability on your motherboard - what about Crossfire with the 6870, so in say 1 years time you can always bung in another 6870 if you felt the need.
