neither one of those. God i hope it was jeff daniels that played the lead. He is a crazy smart detective with many personal issues. He lives in something like a safe, and has ben afflek (?, if i remember correctly) run most of his errands. One specific scene has daniels running on a thread mill to scope on a suspect.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Trois Couleurs

Dead Man

Die Feuerzangenbowle

A Man for All Seasons

Il Sorpasso

Alien

[edit] Le Roi Et L'Oiseau <--- remembered it :) [/edit]

Off the top of my head list, sneaking feeling I've forgotten a really important (to me) one.
Really depends on my mood, sometimes I like certain movies better than others etc.

A few of my favourite or most remembered films of recent years, in no particular order:

Requiem For A Dream - Probably one of the hardest hitting movies I've ever seen. Almost visceral in it intensity. Afterwards I felt like I'd been punched in the face, hard. Also one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen.

Momento - An amazing thriller, that almost plays in reverse, that toys with your conception of time and reality. Brilliantly acted, conceived and realised.

Donnie Darko - Any movie that manages to combine teen angst, comedy, horror, political satire and sci-fi in such a beatiful and humanistic way should be praised. The fact that it's clever, witty, provocative, touching and heartbreaking is all the more suprising. Oh, and beatiful cinematography.

Dead Man's Shoes - Very low budget British revenge thriller that makes up for it's budget with amazing acting and terrifying realism. The lack of Holywood glamour makes this so much more intense and frightening.

Amélie - Beautiful, heart-warming French production that proves that the words "romantic comedy" need not be Holywood slush.

Amores Perros - Kind of like a Mexican 'Pulp Fiction', with even more violence, black-comedy and random thrills. Clever, intense and entertaining on many levels.

Ôdishon (Auditon) - Japanese extreme cinema taken to, erm, the extreme. Lulls you into a false sense of security and then hits you with such itensity that, if you can sit through it all without feeling sick, you are a hardier person than I.

Top fav movies in 2005:
- Sin City
- A History of Violence

Top fav movies in 2004:
