GTA V March 4 update brings Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR support.

Looks like Rockstar is bringing a new update exclusively for the PC version of GTA V.

Ray Tracing including Reflections, Shadows, Global Illhttps://www.dsogaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/GTA5-Raumination, and Ambient Occlusion support being added.
DLSS3 (Can probably Override with DLSS4 since you already can do that with RDR2)
FSR 3.0 support

Hardware requirements aren't off the charts either.

Very cool indeed. I still play GTA V once or twice a week, and have tons of high quality mods that could benefit from the new added features.

Some further details...

Technical Enhancements

Depending on hardware support, GTAV players on PC who upgrade will be able to enjoy:
  • Ray tracing features only available on PC such as ambient occlusion and global illumination — plus ray traced shadows and reflections first debuted on consoles
  • Support for AMD FSR1 and FSR3, and NVIDIA DLSS 3
  • Faster loading times using SSD and DirectStorage on supported devices and configurations
  • Enhanced support for higher resolutions, higher aspect ratios, and higher framerates
  • DualSense® controller support, with adaptive triggers
  • Enhanced audio with support for Dolby Atmos and improved fidelity of speech, cinematics, and music

Wow! Just WOW!

Just tried the updated version (GTA V Enhanced), and I must say the game looks super sharp. No more shader/geometry aliasing issues and the textures look super clean. Performance has improved, but I haven't had any issues in that department to begin with (but having a locked 144Hz/fps experience with VSYNC is always welcomed). The raytracing features are nice, but nothing super transformative. Very reflective vehicles...

Overall, a nice worthy update that I'm enjoying.

My panel (TV) adds HDR quite well, when using the gaming profile. Also, you can find many mods that add proper (close to proper) HDR tone mapping.
Post process HDR "mods" like AutoHDR or RTXHDR are nowhere near close to native HDR. The only mod that adds proper HDR is RenoDX, but its not universal, I hope someone makes it for this game, but it should not be needed in 2025. You can like your panel's fake HDR mode, good for you, enjoy it, personally I use Special K in these cases when there's no HDR support, but there's no excuse for not having proper HDR, specially when the console versions have had it for a few years now.

This Luma mod for Starfield adds full HDR support, it really transforms the experience on my C2. Unfortunately Nvidia's latest drivers broke it so waiting on a fix one day.

Yes, that's the same as RenoDX mods, it replaces the shaders via Reshade's addon system to mod in native HDR. It's not a post process solution like normal reshade shaders or any autohdr system.

I remember reading from one of the devs, the new Nvidia driver broke the mod because of error in the mod itself. So it's not the driver's fault.

Comparison video of ray tracing on vs off, global illumination adds considerable improvements to image quality during the daylight. During rain, ray traced reflections complete the scene on puddles and wet surfaces. Generally, cars benefit from reflections tremendously.

PSA: this is a whole new game in Steam. If you had GTA5 installed it will now say "Grand Theft Auto V Legacy". You have to install the new "Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced" as a new game. This automatically appeared in my Steam library since I already owned the game. But I was confused when I started the game and nothing was different, because GTAV Legacy installed a 200MB update earlier today and I thought that was it.

Correct. The enhanced edition install size is much smaller than the legacy edition, and streaming assets (and LoD transitioning) is much smoother.

I've been trying the new version. Runs around 90-120fps with everything maxed 1440p DLSS Quality on my 4070/13600K. The framerate is capped at 120 for some reason, maybe it could run faster.

By everything I mean all the settings absolutely maxed including RT except AF which is at 8x, since I can't really tell the difference between 8x and 16x.

It looks better but TBH I wasn't completely sure it was working at first. After toggling RT on and off I can see the difference, but I understand why some might not care or think the FPS hit isn't worth it. Though for me, with DLSS the game both looks better and runs better (than the old version maxed 1440p using 4xMSAA). Maybe on older GPUs this would be different.

How do I upgrade to the new version afaik the rockstar launcher nor the epic launcher have downloaded anything
edit: just read the posts in this thread
ps: will the new game copy over my save files since i'm currently playing the single player (about 60% done)

Yes. If you haven't played GTA V online in awhile, you will need to sign into the legacy online edition (or enhanced) and agree to the updated Rockstar policies and terms. Once completed, follow the steps listed in the link below.

Migrating your Story Mode Save from Grand Theft Auto V Legacy to Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced on PC

Ive never played GTA V online

You're not missing much. I'm more into the FiveM/LCPDFR role playing and modding community aspects when I have time.

Anyhow, you will still need to sign into GTA V online and complete the policies agreement process on uploading your saves from Legacy to Enhanced.

So you gotta sign into Online in Legacy for your saves to transfer? Oh well I already restarted the game.

never played a GTA game, but I was curious about this one. However, without XeSS support it's a no go for me
