Switch 2 Speculation

The AI TOPS seems to be about 15 TOPS or so.
Is it the reason Mario Kart doesn’t use DLSS?
Since it is a 60 fps racing game, DLSS is too costly
for the weak AI TOPS.
I'd think they're just already hitting the graphics level, resolution and performance they're happy with for Mario Kart. These games dont need to be pushing any technical envelopes and I'd be surprised if Nintendo is overly concerned with pushing >1080p resolutions.

Nintendo, historically, doesn't tend to use AA regardless of the power on tap
Indeed. But they do use upscaling when needeed (be it FSR or other more simple reconstruction methods like they did with Odyssey in portable).
It's not possible to assert that this MK9 footage had no DLSS given the video compression and all. But there is on specific shot where the aliasing is so evident that I guess nobody would be surprised if it does indeed not use DLSS. Maybe because they don't think they need it. Or maybe because they don't want to use it.

T239 should definitely have enough power for DLSS, so it will be very interesting to see if they use it, or if they go with some custom method.
I guess using DLSS will bind Nintendo to NVidia for ages to some extend. While using some other form of AI upscale would still put the tensor cores to good use and could offer good enough results.
Or maybe Nintendo secured a way to be allowed to move away from NVidia/DLSS using some custom translation layer (is that even possible on a technical level?)...

Why even bring that Mario kart footage into any discussion when there isn't even any indication it was taken from a game running real time on switch 2 hardware?
Not sure what you're suggesting here. The game was pre-renderer and isn't representative, or Nintendo chose a game running on inferior hardware to showcase their new platform, like revealing the GBA showing GB Color graphics?

3060 has 100 TOPS. Switch 2 has way less TOPS.

Digital Foundry thinks Switch 2 may be hard to use DLSS for 4K.
Oh yeah you're right. 2050 with 64 Tensor cores has 20 TOPS. The Switch 2 with 48 cores will be less.

Digital Foundry did say 1440p upscaling should be doable. For the main Switch audience that should suffice.

Wow I think Nueral Texuture Compression "on load" could be a game changer for Switch 2 games. Textures are essentially 15% of the size of even BCn compressed textures! With the same quality! Initial loads may be longer but should really help with game cart sizes and even the limited onboard and SD card storage.

This demo is way too limited to understand if the technology is good or not. Let's see how it works it actual games.

It has been a definite shift these past two decades. I too would be quite surprised if there any specifications as part of the full reveal.

Back in the days of the Super Nintendo, I remember the marketing really emphasizing the color palette; and the Nintendo 64 campaign exalted the specifications (particularly rendering features) for perhaps a year ahead of launch. And the SGI partnership two or three years prior to release. GameCube still had a little of that - there was discussion of the TEV, the Gekko CPU fabrication process, the '1T SRAM'.

With the Wii, that aspect really did recede fairly dramatically.

Thats cool you were old enough to experience the N64 launch. I was just getting done with being a toddler. But the N64 is imo the best Nintendo console of all time. Switch 2 has an opportunity to do well though with the tried and tested Switch 1. I hope they really utilize the AI acceleration available with Nvidia to provide higher resolution gaming.

Vividly, I was in middle school. Indeed, I am old enough to remember (as a fairly young child) reading about the upcoming SNES launch in US, and the earlier SFC reveal (1989). At that point late 1989, most of the video game magazines arrived surface mail, so it was about 3 months behind - but the first photos of the system I do remember.
