Games ruined by stupid crap?

. It's significantly better to buy flight control panels, throttle quadrants, rudder pedals, flight yokes/sticks to play the game than to use a keyboard and mouse.
Granted but when Shifty uses the term controller he means joypad
ps: you missed out rpg's better to have 12 spells assigned to the number keys plus - = than use a pad

I don't think I'd be able to play WoW on a controller without seriously degrading the gameplay experience. Having the keyboard and mouse is preferred with how the game works with the camera and mouse work together. Also all the different spells or abilities one can do need to be dumbed down in a big manner. So I guess mmorpgs have a leg up on a PC, at least if it was designed as that being the platform.

But overall yeah it depends on the type of game. I'm just glad we've got the choice and support on PC to be able to use console controllers for the types of games they're better opted for. Remember way back when we'd be stuck playing need for speed with just the keyboard arrows to turn?

I know a lot of younger peeps prefer controllers for fps because that's how they grew up playing. And honestly I kinda prefer that style as well but will use a keyboard and mouse if I'm playing competitively. Cuz for me it's an advantage.

I'm just going to come out and say it. Keyboard and mouse is garbage for playing games barring rts, fps, point and click adventure games. You used Dcs as an example and I don't play that but play flight simulator. It's significantly better to buy flight control panels, throttle quadrants, rudder pedals, flight yokes/sticks to play the game than to use a keyboard and mouse. It's also much easier to memorize the controls. Using a KB mouse combo for flight sim is also inferior to flying on a controller. Using the kb+mouse to control bank angle, pitch, and yaw is terrible. Horrible actually. As someone who has been playing flight sims since 98, I can attest from experience that it's terrible.

Personally, I don't know where this keyboard and mouse elitism stems from as its a pretty terrible way to play games barring fps, point and click, and rts. In fact, a strong argument can be made that point and click is better or touch enabled devices. Here are just some genres that are superior on controller: racing games, sports games, arcade flight games, third person shooters, platformers, open world games, etc. When I game on PC, I use a a controller for everything except rts and fps and sometimes, I even use a controller for fps games.

Finally most peopled do not want to memorize hundreds of button combos to play a game. 40 is already pushing it. When you have that many, it's no longer a game, it's a simulator and those make up a small minority of the market.
well I agree in certain points, just gotta say that you forgot to mention tactical turn based strategy games and visual novels. They are much better to play with a kb + mouse. I mean games like Divinity Original Sin or Heroes of Might & Magic, etc, although those have been adapted to play ok with a controller.

There are other uses when a keyboard might be better. I.e. racing games where extreme precision is a must and you can use the directional keys so easily to drive with a single hand. Up arrow to accelerate, and Left and Right arrow to steer.

That's how I used to play all the racing games like the original The Need for Speed and so on. Also back then using the MIDI port to calibrate a gamepad/joystick could be a nightmare, and also sometimes the calibration tended to drift any given direction and you were constantly going left or right, without touching anything....

Like this other similar uses where analog directions -arcade games of certain genres- from the kb gave you better control.

oh man I hadn't read your post yet when I replied, The Need for Speed is a game that I mentioned in my previous post.

That being said, I have to point out that when playing games of that era like Screamer, The Need for Speed or Speed Haste etc, I got used to play with the directional keys and I think I couldn't beat those times with a controller. Too many cold and humid nights playing those games with the KB in the solitude of my room in front of the computer.

With games like Ridge Racer, even via emulation, I found out that a gamepad was much better. But on The Need for Speed for instance, it was easier for me to steer and make little corrections when turning using the KB than using the controller 'cos I was just using 3 fingers to play the game.

Playing fighting games like Battle Arena Toshinden was nightmarish though. Although I managed to fire Hadoukens on Street Fighter games following the Down, Down-Right, Right sequence :D
