So, I decided to create a thread dedicated to PC gaming benchmarks, applications benchmarks, and even benchmarking testing suites themselves. I will try to provide one or two benchmarks during the week on keeping things rolling. Hopefully, other PC gamers will provide benchmarks as well. Any updates provided by thread participants, will be added to the first post.


Far Cry 5
These particular test results are based on CPU core & thread configuration, refresh rates, V-sync status, resolution scaling, and Ultra settings. Lastly, the “recommended” results are based on how well the average framerates holds up in the game and what the refresh rate is configured for.

FYI: Base CPU/GPU clock results provided, no overclocking results at this time.

Benchmark System
· CPU:
Threadripper 1950x 16c/32th
· Motherboard: ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme
· GPU: Titan XP SLI setup.
· Ram: 64GB of G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series
· Storage: Two 500GB Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 and three 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD

NVMe vs. SATA 3

These particular test are mostly centered on SSD’s interface performance and how it scales across different core & thread configurations. Below is a typical generic SSD benchmark, along with GTA V on providing real-world gaming performance benchmarks.

Gaming Configuration: 4K resolution, ultra settings, no anti-aliasing, and no GPU/CPU overclocks. Also, pass or passes are the five benchmarking scenes within GTA V benchmarking suite.

As you can see from the GTA V benchmarks, there really isn’t a major difference in gaming performance between the SSD interfaces. The “overall edge” category is simply based on an overall framerate edge held within their respective groups. So, in group 1 the NVMe interface did slightly better, while in group 2 the SATA interface did slightly better. That being said, the NVMe SSD has faster loading times in game and between benchmarking scenes by 13-15 seconds.
