You are good democrat if....

Just to get the political hackles going: Michael Moore and Ann Coulter are two sides of the same coin.

The main difference is: Moore is a satirist (and it's quite obvious - get The Awful Truth on DVD), Coulter is dead serious. Exaggeration is a tool in satire and everyone with half a brain understands it and knows how to deal with it. The same thing does not apply to political commentary.

Besides, Moore never gets anywhere as nasty and insulting as Coulter does - but that's really the (American) conservative way of political discourse. Nothing new here.

How many liberal equivalents to Savage, Limbaugh, Coulter, Falwell, Pat Buchanan, Ollie "Babykiller" North, Hannity, O'Reilly etc. do you know? And that's just the ones _I_ know of, and I am not even American.

There's Noam Chomsky, add Michael Moore just for the heck of it (he does not really belong there) and that's it, no?

Now, compare Chomsky's style of discourse to Limbaugh's or Savage's... see what I mean?

You don't know any of them because they're not popular (i.e. don't sell) so they don't spend any time on the TV.

Regardless, Moore has a ton more devotees than Ann Coulter ever will. Whether he's a satirist or not, he has a profound influence on kids in college. What he says is gospel, regardless of the truth of the message.

Give me a break. The major, primetime, American News broadcastors for the major TV networks are all liberal in ideologies. And then you're even going to dare compare them against the Conservatives on Talk-Radio and Cable as per their pervasiveness?

http://secure.mediaresearch.org/news/projects/DanRather20thAnniversary.htm

Paul Begaula & James Carville alone are enough to drive any independent voter to the Republican Ranks. Hell, if you think Ann's bad, listen to Carville for 10 minutes and tell me if you don't try to slit your wrists with a plastic spoon.

The problem isn't that Liberal commentators don't exist, but rather the populace, by far, rejects them. Which is a dangeous thing for leftists - either you admit that your message is insignificant and people don't want that vision as seen by the sheer economic sucess/failure of the respective programs or admit that Liberals don't care and don't seek knowledge.

So, please....

Same thing. You're not on TV, you don't play any role in public discourse. My point exactly. Now, let's take things a bit further... how many liberals are there actually in the so-called "liberal" media? All I see is conservatives of various degrees of radicalism and a small minority of moderates. Where is this fabled liberal media?

Regardless, Moore has a ton more devotees than Ann Coulter ever will.

I doubt that. If this was the case we would see more Moore on TV and less Coulter. Beside's look at Sabastian, he wants to hump her. Who wants to hump Moore?

College... so basically people who are smart enough to understand satire, no?

How many of Coulter's target audience can actually see through her blantant, vitirolic lies and defamations?

Obviously they're not smart enough to understand that he's lying to promote his political views.

As for Ann Coulter, I've only seen her on the TV once. Most of the exposure she gets is from people whining about how horrible she is.

Your stereotypical Moore-disciple is a college kid whose left his parents as soon as possible and is currently undergoing the I think I know it all, I'm going to overturn the "establishment", viva la revolution stage and is hardly the type of person I want on my side in a serious debate.

Have you even talked to any of them? I have during the run-upto war and it's not pretty. I'm going to suggest to Penn & Teller that they do an episode of Bullshit! on them.

God, I love that show. The End of the World episode... wow.

Anyway... yeah, liberal college kids become ultraliberal ("Socialism would work if somebody actually tried it!" Get a clue, dumbass.), ultraconservative college kids become even more conservative if they go to ultraconservative colleges (a la Bob Jones or Harding), and everyone else just gets drunk.

I think all of our Presidents have come from the third category, and that's not necessarily a bad thing..

HA!

Vince, reading through the link you provided it seems that Rather is critized for his critical attitude towards the administration but frankly, nothing I read there puts him anywhere near Coulter or O'Reilly, let alone Limbaugh. So Rather might pass as a liberal? W00t. Makes like what? Three of them? Great. And none of them is actually more than a moderate liberal.

And the populace rejects them? Nope, the populace rejects sensible, proper political discourse. And that's something the left needs to get their points across since rightist style of simplification rarely works with leftist rationale.

And the populace doesn't want to see political discourse, it wants to see a bunch of morons raving their lunatic heads off about some political issue. O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Coulter and their ilk have tourned political discourse into entertainment. Provocation, name calling, strong worded ad hominem attacks... that's what most people in America enjoy when it comes to politics. And that's what they get dealt by the republican talking heads.

The media has dumbed the populace to an extend where Ann Coulter's nutty rants are okidokey while Dan Rather's mildly worded critizism is seen as blatant, unfair und slanderous bias.

To borrow (and hack apart) the words of Margaret Thatcher, "I seem to smell the stench of denial in the air."

So, you're going to dismiss the 3 major News Networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) aswell as several major Newspapers (NYTimes) or NPR as insignificant and instead focus on the conservative radio-shows and commentators on Cable that are a reaction to the blatent liberalism in the mainstream media.

To even defend Rather (after 30-odd years of this documented liberal bias) is insane. Just Google for him and Bias - and it's the same for the other mainstream media figures.

And the populace doesn't want to see political discourse, it wants to see a bunch of morons raving their lunatic heads off about some political issue. You are so full of shit. Then why didn't Phil Donahue's show even survive a few months, forget prospering. The man's an animal - the liberal embodiment of the qualities you stated, yet where's his show now? And before Donahue was Mario Cuomo & Jim Hightower - both swiftly crashed and burned. People just don't give a shit about the liberal viewpoint, how many liberal type shows need to fail for you to see this?

Beyond that, It's "provocation, namecalling and straong worded ad hominem attacks" when conservatives do it - what's it called when Paul Begaula and James Carville do it to an extent that make the conservatives you listed look like pussies.

Watch Crossfire and tell me how the conservative (eg. Tucker Carlson) is what you stated above and how the Liberals have no voice. If anything Tucker is the man of tact and class in his argument, as opposed to the Ex-Clinton headhunters/hit-squad who are Begala and Carville.

The media has dumbed the populace to an extend where Ann Coulter's nutty rants are okidokey while Dan Rather's mildly worded critizism is seen as blatant, unfair und slanderous bias.

Wait... I'm confused. You have 1st hand knowledge of the full spectrum of American media how? Your view is soo inconsistent and far from fact, you can't possibly live in America.

lol, I thought that I might intervene here and say that I don't know who made that list up. It was Natoma that suggested that I got it from her book but I really don't know who made the list. I averted the discussion after that, she isn't that bad looking. I suppose if she were in favor of left wing ideals she would be better looking somehow.

To be honset the only reason I said that wrt Ann Coulter is because frankly I don't think you're smart enough to come up with a list like that. Honest but true. But Ann Coulter certainly knows a thing about false claims surrounded by aggrandizing bias. :)

Oh then you think the list is witty? I thought so too. Anyhow when I read your "good" republican list it looks as though it is some sort of rebuttle to the "good democrat" list. I take it that you mean she is smart?

Smart by definition of general intelligence? Definitely. Does she use that intelligence? Oh hell no. Just read her website. :)
