Xbox Shenmue II for $9.99 USD...

I was doing some searching around for Shenmue stuff, and I ran across some interesting screenshots detailing progression of Shenmue II development.

As is known, the engine was first built in the 1994-1997 SEGA Saturn years. Here are some screenshots from that version and time running on a Saturn, including many shots from Shenmue II:

In 1998, the engine got moved to Dreamcast. Here's a shot (and unfortunately a bad capture) of Shenmue II from that year. The graphics engine appears to be pretty much in the final form we know it today. It is notable, though, that this is an early rendition; the scenario presented is actually altered from the final version (slight redesign of Scarlet Hills outside Man Mo Temple; Wong not appearing in Wan Chai like depicted):

I can't wait to see what SEGA (AM2) can do these days on a Shenmue-type game, like Virtua Fighter Quest.

At the following links, you can find some interesting shots of things that got cut from the final versions of the games. Of particular note is this shot of Niao Sun, a character not yet introduced into the series, in what looks like Guilin:

I also remember someone at Gaming-Age a while back asking for help tracking down a particular screenshot of a location not acutally in any of the games. No one was able to help them at that time, but I think the picture they were looking for from their description was this one:

best graphics ever are when the tree with the pink flowers sheds (for lack of a better word) its flowers and thousands of the fly around u.

This next pic is interesting... look at the open palm of his hand. I was floored when I saw this cutscene which depicts Ryo practicing a Tai Chi kata in early morning's pale, moonlight illumination.

Still looks quite striking.

Jesus christ man, this thread was supposed to be about the stability of GC/Xbox ASPs versus PS2 ASPs, not a Shenmue appreciation thread!

That horse has been beaten to death, then shit on, then incinerated.. don't bother bringing it up again :p

lazy8s is going to preach over shenmue even when PS5 is out....

and anyway, it might look striking to your Sega eyes, but by today's standards it looks pretty bland....

:? (prepares for next 9000-words rant from lazy8s about how divine shenmue and dreamcast and every Sega thing are...) :?

It was easly the most graphicly impressive and most epic game out at its release and in some ways still is. Can't take that away from it. :) Sorry figured i' chime in a bit.

i said shenmue was the most graphicly impressive and epic game at around the time of its launch , you said keyword at the time , basicly agreeing with me that it was the most graphicly impressive and epica game at around the time of its launch , At the time of its launch was also the time of mgs2s launch. So there for compared to mgs2 it was graphicly impressive :) Sorry spent 4 hours argueeing with my gf about her birthday plans... i wanted to make dinner (loboster , salamon ceaser salad and some pastrys ) she wanted to go to the outback... some how she twisted everythign i said to suit her needs . Heh i'm still cooking though damn it haha

anyway, mgs2 came out after shenmue, and i mean A LOT after.....

and, really, do u think that Shenmue looks even comparable to MGS2??? apart from the size (undeniably it's bigger) and the art (subjective really).....

i can't believe it..... ur girlfriend must have done something to u......

MGS2 is on another planet all together... u played it right? u had a GOOD look at it right.....

well i compare everything to my gf.... and the mona lisa even looses there (looks over shoulder) okay she is gone now. Yes i've played mgs2, not the whole way through my ex beat it with me basicly watching her play 90% of the whole thing. Its not really my type of game. Its hard to compare either game. So I'm not going to say anything else about these two things. I will say that shenmue and mgs2 came out what 6months - a year apart and thats because mgs2 was delayed because of 9/11 wasn't it ? My question is have you played through both shenmues ? One of the reasons that mgs2 doesn't impress me is because it all takes place in dark confinded areas. There are the big rooms and the few scenes that take place out side but 90% takes place inside small room.

anyway the biggest leap ever made in video games is in b17 bomber when the intevelison talked... that was the shit man... still have yet to see it surpassed 8)

well not bad.... i thought it would have been a good idea to make a 64x, to put on top of the 32x.... and at each generation u add a layer, so now u'd have a 128x... until u reach the ceiling, then u're f**ked... u'd have to go for a Gamesphere or XXXbox....

im sorry im just very tired, and when im tired i talk nonsense

Don't worry.. My gf says i allways talk nonsense.

Btw... can this thread get any more off topic ?

CAN you imagine an independent hardware manufacturer that produces the HARD version of the Xbox and call it XXXbox.... it would only feature games with bouncing boobs, naked girls playing beach volley and things like that.,...

oh hang on a minute.... it already does that.....
