Microsoft and digital content delivery specialists Limelight Networks have announced a new partnership that the platform holder hopes will vastly improve the reliability and functionality of its online service, Xbox Live.

In a joint statement made Thursday, Microsoft said that Limelight’s expertise in content delivery network services would boost the firm’s online offering by helping to deliver music, films and games via less congested Internet routes, reports Reuters.

Hopefully that means faster download times.

Perhaps it would even mean marketplace support outside north america,..or naah. Not very likely now that I think about it.
Peace.

I guess it's because NA is basically juyst 2 countries and while population-wise Europe is about the same or maybe even a bit greater it's spread out amongst roughly speaking 1157 different nations..

I suppose thhere's a lot of overhead they'd have to deal with to roll out movie music and TV material in europe. Then again they surely could do more to get started than they've done so far.

eace.

I honestly don't know if they need to be "faster". My XBL downloads are easily 4-5x faster than Wii or PS3 downloads already.

yea my DLs are sweet right now and the service rocks. I know others don't have as much luck and maybe this will help them... especially as the HD and DL TV and movies become a bigger and bigger draw. Not to mention rolling out all of that Media DL'ing World wide.

Well. I just pulled down the 1gb MoH:airborne demo in about an hour. Which is about 300k/s - really fast for New Zealand.

However given the E3 press conference detailed a European rollout of the video marketplace, and the press statement specifically mentions music... One could assume that this signals a new push by microsoft for the expansion of the video/zune? marketplace*.
I'd certainly hope so. It would be really like to finally be able to get my teeth into some nice HD content for cheap (ish) :smile2:

*Ohh and how about full size game downloads?

Currently, my bottle neck is my slow DSL. However, there are parts of the US where extra speed is really nice. More importantly, they're just making sure there are enough bandwidth for everyone to "jump in". ;)
