XBox HD resolutions

Okay, I'm looking forward to playing my new XBox (currently under the tree) this Christmas on my 50" wide-screen HDTV.

Question: For games that support 640p (or better), how does it handle wide-screen? Both a standard and wide-screen TV supports 640p (or 1080i, etc) but the width is higher on a wide-screen TV.

Anyone have any experience on this?

Also, I assume that most (all?) games support 640p, how many support higher resolutions (720, 1080i)?

Thanks,
Steve

A game has to support widescreen mode in order to work(not sure how many do, definitely not all of them however) in widescreen. If a game supports progressive mode and not widescreen you will have the standard bars on the side of the screen.

IIRC Burnout supports 720, none others that I am aware of however.

The vast majority of games support 480p, the only games I know that support higher are Tony Hawk 4 (720p) and Dragon's Lair 3D in 1080i...

Thanks for the information. I'll guess I'll just see what it's like when I get it all working. :)

I'm sure I'll be happy with the XBox, but I recall way back in the early days the hype that stated the Xbox with the might Nvidia chip allowing high-resolution game-play. Let's face it, 640x480 (480p) is the lowest resolution games run at on a PC. If the Nvidia chip is so hot, why don't they support 720p or 1080i then? I wonder if it is due to the blasted 64MB limitation.
