I didn't miss anything, but I agree it was little more than stupid, I was being polite..
That's what a love about this forum - being polite.
With the logic you are going here MS should have sold all those 25M Xboxs to customers at 2001-2002.
You are being less then logical, since harcore gamers doesn not necesarly mean early adopters. I'm what you could call a hardcore gamer, and I only bought the xbox1 two years ago.
Anyway, xbox1 is all but officially dead, there were a few multiplat games released this fall, up until 20 november, and only 1 game release after this date, I believe it's Payout Poker & Casino . As far as I know, there are only 3 games to be released in the forseeble future - MOH-A, Fuel and SnoCross2.
I, for instance, sold my xbox1 six month ago, as there was nothing interesting coming out anymore for it (exclusives, I mean - I tend to play all multiplat on the PS2, even though sometimes the xbox version is a better one, but I'm more at ease with the controller). I'm playing PS2 now, I dont plan to buy 360 until 2-3 years, like I did with the xbox1, to play all the good exlusives. I imagine some of the xboxers did the same (the new owners will be busy playing the good old games) and now they are playing other systems while waiting for a price drop. Assen - see above - is playing 360 at the office (lucky guy).
But the rest - I dont know, and it bugs me a little. The success on this market must relay on platform continuity - gamers doing the upgrade to the next iteration of the platform. It's good to have half of the current userbase a newcomers (since you can hope to double your installed base), but it's not so great that not so many of your last console owners are making the upgrade I year from launch, especially when that last console is not geting any games anymore. You risk loosing these guys to other consoles.
