Wow, MS must have paid a pretty penny to set get the land for that building.

Any thoughts on what it's going to be?? I'm pretty sure MS has it's own office buiding. Xboxland?? Probably ground Zero for the launch, I imagine.

Recently 4 Apple Stores opened around Japan (Apple Store Shibuya, the latest one, is actually near that Ring of Light building) so I guess it's a similar attempt.

BTW, a strange building is under construction in a trendy area in Tokyo now... (Not disclosed yet what's inside the temporary wall)
Considering the x360 box design is blown up to huge proportions, probably on all sides of that temporary wall, there's one thing we definitely can say about that construction job: MS sure isn't subtle! :)

I just wish they'd release the darn thing already. I'm tired of waiting! (Never was any damn good at it, heh!)

Wow, bold play by MS - but it's certainly the right way to play the Japanese market.

I really don't see that MS dedicating themselves to a store is a bright idea. At least here in America. I can't speak for the Japanese market. America is moving away from brick and mortar stores. Though I guess just one store would be more a museum than anything else.

DO you really think so? I find brick and mortar is even more important than ever... online shopping is great but you cant hold/test the device your interested in. and many people look for deals online so they can go pick it up in the store today.

As far as "MS" stores its not a good idea in America if only because then retailers would take issue with MS' direct to consumer activities. Its not possible to undersell the mfr and make money for gods sake...

I guess I should have explicitly stated that it is my opinion. And yes, I really think so. Physically located stores have benefits, true. And I think they'll always be with us. But a fair amount of commerce happens online, and I don't recall hearing that it's decreasing in volume.

I don't know .. brick and mortar seems to be making a comeback. I've seen Apple Computer and Sony Style stores spring up everywhere like mushrooms after a storm. Sony has a Playstation store in SF (and I believe NY) that is always packed with people. There are rows of game stations in the Playstation store where you can try out any game you want, and banks of HD trailers constantly running. Quite a lively place .. esp in relation to clicking hyperlinks on a webpage.

Yeah, but those are trendy, specialty boutique stores. Sony can't really go too far with their Sony Style stores without upsetting their legion of retailers. That's why prices almost always suck there. Apple has more leeway for that, plus they currently have the 'cool' factor working for them.

B&Ms will never go away, but savvy consumers can always save a buck on the internet.
