Now that both PSP and DS are going to have it, there are some basic questions.
For instance, do either have the interface to enter long WEP keys?
Will you be able to go to a pay Wifi hotspot like a Starbucks and get access to their network which typically requires some kind of authentication?
The rumor is that developers pushed Sony into including 802.11 into the PSP. What was their incentive? Will they charge you for online gaming, like the basic, free online gaming you get on the PS2?
I know developers are more excited about mobile gaming (cell phones) than consoles to a certain extent. They think all the micro-transactions (presumably they expect the same kind of volume for games as downloadable ringers?) could provide better margins than console games.
They are always looking for viable online gaming business models, i.e. how to make more money beyond sales of shrink wrap software.
So is wireless portable gaming more of a boon for gamers or for publishers?
