Will Wii extend the lifetime of previous gen consoles?

Seeing as many 3rd parties are going to make ports of their games to wii anyways, will that extend the lifetime of Xbox and ps2?

My theory is, it will be more trivial to make a port for xbox and ps2 too as developer is making previous gen art assets for wii anyways.

As an example, I think xbox version of CoD3 is pretty much representative of the Wii version as far as graphics go.

In an ideal world you don't need to specifically make low-fidelity assets, but rather you use an automatic process that extracts those from your high-fidelity assets. You do some touch-ups, split some levels by hand, but let the computer do most of the grunt work.

Wii could keep a steady stream of content flowing onto the older console, but i think the real winner from Wii backwash will be the PSP. it's got enough power to run many game engines designed for Wii/current gen, but it's still new hardware. that would allow developers to use reuse assets but still keep their games on "nextgen" hardware.
