Will Multi-VPU require an ATI motherboard chipset?

If you've got dual DVI on both cards anyway, and data's being sent to both cards anyway, what's to stop you plugging one DVI monitor into each card?

And I agree, the throttling-thing sounds crazy from a technical viewpoint, although there may be marketing justifications for such a move. As to game profiles, I can kinda see why they'd be necessary given that different games have different balances between pixel shaders, vertex shaders, texturing etc, I suppose,
