why "Which was nice" ?!

it always beggers belief amongst uk people that allo-allo is watched by other nationalities! it was kinda viewed as 'cheap laughs' for a while . .

fwiw, the uk series 'secret army' always makes allo-allo funnier,, it was a series war drama based about a belgian cafe owner who helped airmen escape with the aid of an attractive underground girl... now what does that remind us of ?

*and* the guy who played the colonel is in one of those 'worthy' 1960(?) wartime films,,, as a german officer :)

But the biggest send ups of all were of the Brits, e.g. escaping pilots or the attempt to "spake Frinch" of the undercover spy pretending to be a French policeman.

We had Secret Army in Sweden anyway... hell, we probably have had 80%+ of all British TV shows the last 20-30 years. :)

We've been spared from Eastenders, though...

It's one of the few shows I remember watching (when I was slightly younger than now). Of course, we had subtitles then...
It does have attraction beyond the obvious language aspects. And it has aged remarkably well.

The second DVD set is about to get released/is just released, BTW.
(hint!)

I saw some allo-allo episodes. The show was not really fun but what made us laugh a lot was french seen thru english minds )

Ah, but do you get Corrie?

Well, I have a fleeting memory of it. I think they tried airing it 8-10 years ago, but it didn't fly, thankfully. :)

Emmerdale(Farm) has run for 20-odd years, on the other hand... yeuch.

Allo Allo has my favourite 'joke that came from bad handwriting."

Phone rings.
Herr Flick the Gestapo officer, picking up phone: "Flick, The Gestapo." Pause. "No, you fool, I said, Flick, The Gestapo!"
