Why do some people dislike motion interpolation for anime and real-life movies/series?

here's a demo video of the hobbit in 24fps and interpolated (pan only and soap opera) with SVP nvidia optical flow, split in half.

later on, you can see different interpolation levels (03:33 for soap opera) and in full screen in dining scene with pan-only interpolation (03:54).

my observation (only read after watching the video above and creating your own opinion, to avoid being affected by my words)

  • interpolation with my setting (mainly just to make pans smoother), keeps the "movie feel" close to original, while making panning scenes smoother.
  • in non-panning scenes, the interpolated and non-interpolated are almost indistinguishable.
  • soap opera interpolation (03:33) changes the "movie feel".

the video is in HDR, you may need to use VLC to make it looks proper in SDR.

How do you play it in HDR on a PC? The only HDR support I understand currently is Kodi for PC, which is HDR10(+) only
