Which Xbox racer should I get?

Which of the following should I get? The most important thing to me is graphics, then frame rate, then car physics.

1) colin mcrae 3
2) APEX
3) World Racing (Mercedes)
4) Toca
5) Burnout 2

Burnout 2 is *really* fast and really smooth and adrenaline rushing game It will be coming to Xbox in approx 5-6 months. It runs at super-smooth 60 FPS, has arcade physics and spot-on control. Very fun game, in my opinion.

So far, Apex seems to be the best looking racer on the Xbox but the framerate is 30FPS and the car physics seem to be on the arcade side (other people's words, I haven't had a chance to play it).

GT3 is a really pretty and involving game, but I don't see why would you have to get rid of the Xbox to play it. Get a PS2 and keep the Xbox if you already have it :) If you decide to get a GT3, make sure to get a Logitech force feedback wheel with it. It's more than worth the price. What I like most about GT3's graphics is the art direction which is just wonderful. In replays, it sometimes really looks like those pretty car commercials, especially on it's best looking tracks like the night/wet one. Everything about it is very polished, with high attention to detail. Also, it runs at constant 60 FPS. Physics is where pretty much everyone agrees GT3 is among the best (if not the best) in console racers.

do you already have the rest? personally If I had to pick from the entire selection, it doesnt get much better than Rallisport and PGR..
out of that List, its a tough call between Apex and Burnout 2

Get rid of Xbox and get a PS2 so I can play Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec.

Out of the list you give, this one is the best choice. But weren't you the one that was complaining about Rallisport being too difficult ?

PGR looks dated, APEX is your best bet, even tho the framerate is nothing special(30 with some slowdown). Pretty fun from the short time I've played it too, again nothing special or original at all but decent stuff...arcadey physics from what I can tell.

You're right. I did. Guess I should change "car physics" to "ease of control".

You found Rallisport hard to control :?:

I was first anoyed by its obvious arcade bias, but then it grew on me (and my friends), so now I play it weekly (but still casually).

I would really like to get a GT3 A-spec kind of racing sim on XBOX though.

Cheers

I was a little bit disappointed by CMR3 as far as graphics go, but it's nevertheless a good rally game. I too thought Rallisport to have easy controls, so you better try CMR3 before buying it as I found it more difficult to control than RS.

I will buy Racing Evoluzione (Apex) over the next few weeks, but from what I read it should be a straightforward arcade experience with pretty graphics (and sometimes annoying AI :? ). Any new info about the bugs someone posted?

Burnout 2 is a nice, easy to control arcade racer (great graphics atleast on PS2) but it's still several months from release on XBOX. Burnout is IMO a totally different experience than the other racing games listed, so be sure to check if it fits your expectations of a racing game.

TOCA Pro Race Driver (I only played the PS2 version) has IMO good physics and OK controls. It seemed a bit rushed on PS2, so if they fixed various issues it could be a nice racing experience on XBOX.
Like with the other games be sure to try it before buying. (I have a hard time with the cutscenes and the story)

Wait for the first reviews of World Racing. Synetic has always produced pretty racers on PC so graphics should be good.

Before any of the games listed above I recommend a PS2 with GT3 and the GTForce wheel. If you're really into racing games and have the space for the wheel this combination is worth the money.
GT Concept is a nice addition but be sure to get A-spec too. This game is a true system seller.

I personally can't wait for the next GranTurismo.

I found it hard to controll too. Seemed too sensitive and it was too easy to flip the car over hitting even a smallest rock on the road. Also, controller vibrations in that game had terribly choosen frequency, IMO. It literally made my hands numb after a while. I was hoping for a more Sega Rally like controls in Rallysport, but surprisingly, GT3 rally tracks felt way more like what I remember of old Sega Rally from the arcades. When I think about it, rally portion of GT3 is what I played more than anything else in the game.

Seems as if they pulled a PSO for GCN with Apex. The reason why it's "sold out" is because alot of stores only got a few copies. My EB had 3 shipped and my SE had 4. WTF,? surely they thought it'd do better than that. It'll probably do about as good as Quantam Redshift did.

Out of those I'd get TOCA, the AI and handling are very good, though the graphics aren't great(at least the PS2 graphics are not). Plus it is going to be online which should be a ton of fun.

Apex is a huge disappointment to me, the graphics are very good but the AI is just plain bad and the handling isn't the greatest. It had so much potential with the great graphics and tracks, too bad the developers couldn't get the AI and handling right.

If you thought the handling in RSC was difficult, do not get CMR3. It is a sim and the handling is very unforgiving if you don't know what you are doing. You can also only race as the Ford Focus WRC, so that might turn some off, and the graphics aren't the greatest.

As for GT3, I thought the AI was bad and I was disappointed that the game played so similarly to GT and GT2. If you've played either of those, you've played GT3.

I would say MotoGP is the best of the racers to date.

Incredible graphics, physics, gameplay, and fantastic Live! support.

Got APEX. I don't regret getting it. The graphics are even nicer when viewed on an actual tv screen than when viewed in a avi/mov video clip. The cars are very controllable, which I like. I think that if this game had the realistically handling cars that Dural desired, I might have hated it.

Apex has really grown on me, you don't notice the AI until you really screw up and they wait, which is really stupid, but once you are ahead they don't magically catch up. I do still wish the handling and gameplay was a little less arcadey, more like PGR not completely sim. This is an arcade racing game and doesn't pretend to be anything else, and for an arcade racer it is pretty good.
