When converting video to flv the computer gets stuck

I need to send some movies but I’m required to make them with .flv extension. I’ve tried to do the necessary conversion with a video programme suggested by a friend allok video to FLV converter. But I encountered some difficulties during the conversion: after a short time my computer gets stuck and the only way to recover windows is unplug/plug in the power source. Any ideas what my computer may have and how to skip this error?

its not the usual suspects is it ? overheating ect
could it be your running out of resources address space, swap, ram,hdd space ?
try another encoder

Thanks Davros for your help. My computer is not very new and when I launch the conversion I hear a louder sound from pc case.
Bludd, if you can't help why are you offending? Is not a fair way to do your job.

dan there are many free flv converters if they all crash you need to monitor you memory usage especially available virtual memory
ps: you are using xp with ntfs files system ? if your using fat32 you could be hitting the 4gb files size limit
