What should be paid for and what should be free on the Internet?

I wonder how this argument changes when its not downloading movies but watching a stream of a tv show (as opposed to downloading a copy of the tv show) after all a tv show is something given away for free

Porn is a 10billion dollar a year industry, someone is paying for it.

You are forced to comercial breaks, possibly need to pay a feee each month for selctive channels and also in some countries a fee for just owning TV and being allowed to watch free channels. The loss will be nowhere near as if you just downloaded movie/show stright from the internet.

well your not actually forced to watch adverts,;)
and what about watching the stream from an official authorised site for example hulu (except not official in your country) what would be the moral objection to that ?

If its not available in your own country I don't see the problem. Maybe you could even say this should also be legally allowed. Though ofcourse you could say but what if they plan to release it at a later date. Though I always wonder why Europe sometimes has to wait weeks or even months for something that came out in the states to finally arrive here. There is no good reason for it.

Isnt it a bit like me saying only europeans may quote this post
if an american quotes me sure theyve gone against my wishes but are they criminal ?

If the show is available in the US and not any of your European countries at the time it is originally aired then by all means download the fuck out of it. There's little reason for you to have to wait to watch it and possibly pay for it later when the fault lies with the retarded company who decided to make an audience eager to watch the show wait months for it. I don't give a crap about potentially lost profits of a company who didn't have the common business sense to release it at the same time. Not your fault for wanting to watch something unavailable in your country, so why not download?

This is the thing the MPAA and the RIAA never seemed to have learned as they strive to alienate their paying audiences. Add DRM that mostly only punishes legitimate owners and you make a case for justification of theft in the eyes of a lot of people.

Use Spotfiy to listen to music. Now free version only allows for 20h each motnh but premium doesn't cost that much to get access to a humongous amount of albums and tracks to easily browse. It also is damn snappy with instant response when listening to music and fast forwarding tracks.

With this service I can listen to what is present in albums instead of a lottery like it always is buying whole trance/dance/goa albums (you can aslo buy individual tracks on Spotify).

Cant hate on that one.

I pay for all my software, games, books, music, and films. Unless they're free, of course.

I would actually pay for some content (mainly professional reviews) on the web, too, but often I find that the price is either too high or the payment system is too clumsy. I would love it if there was a really easy universal micropayment/donation system (with stress on the donation part) where rewarding a content creator would just be one or two clicks away.

That said, I haven't bought any music or films in a long time - instead I have Lovefilm and Spotify subscriptions. I think that in those areas (and possibly including games) subscription/rental/streaming models are ultimately going to dominate.

Yep, Copyright sucks... Im all for it so long as it expires in 10-15 years like patents. 10 is best...
