What if graphics in current consoles and PC became photorealistic?

What if this photorealistic tech was so simple that a PS1 or DreamCast could run it?

How much budget would be saves because of this?

Zelda would be live action and not fantasy.

Cartoonish environments fit some games very well.

if games were to be photorealistic you will see kids who will see little light of day, wear glasses that rival the thickness of the bulletproof teller windows at banks and give a new meaning to obesity...or in a psych ward because of games like silent hill and siren

It'd certainly be possible for people to do the old laser disc trick, and just composite interactive materials on top, but you'd have a heck of a time getting the interactive stuff to look just as really real as the background.
