What are you playing?

I've completed Halo, Splinter Cell, JSRF and Age of Mythology only recently, all of those were really great and I intend to replay them sometime down the road. Right now I'm playing mostly Mech Assault and Oddworld on Xbox, though since I got Gothic 2 on PC I haven't really played much of anything else for at least a week to be honest, its just that addictive. I've already said about the original game that it really is what Ultima 9 should have been, and Gothic 2 is even way bigger and better so far...

In order of priority -

GTA Vice City
Mortal Kombat 5 (Xbox)
Shenmue 2 (Xbox)
Splinter Cell (Xbox)

I've recently purchased Mech Assault but I want to keep that aside until I get through the other games. I'm reading the last Dune Prequel book which is eating into my game time. Not a bad thing though.

Congrats :D :D

DarkBlu-

a question for those of you who have played both rogue squadron and RL on the GCN - how much is the gameplay similar between the two? i'm a big space sim fan and i find the level of realism and complexity in rogue squadron rather low. ok, darn low.

Realism is still very low(certainly on the arcade end of the spectrum), for complexity what exactly do you mean? Difficulty, or objectives? I'd say the difficulty in RL is considerably ramped, although the controls are far more responsive then they were on the N64 version which offsets it considerably. In terms of objectives, they are still very simplistic(any young child can easily grasp them after being told once).

sorry for not being clear, Ben, by complexity i was referring tactical/strategic complexity - essentially the amout of planing and considertion a player would have to do as to accomplish a given mission objective(s). iow, whether the game allows for a straight, head-on carrying out of the objectives, or not. the objectives themselves may be childish-simple (say, take out target X at location Y) but their accomplishment could be far from straight forward, and that be aside from mastering the game controls. for example, x-wing series (practically any of them) have higher tactical and strategic complexity than rogue squadron, imo.

RL isn't comparable to XWing in terms of requiring planning to execute, it's more akin to old school 2D shooters in the way that once you figure out how to handle a certain objective, it's simplistic(as long as you have the controls down). There aren't viable multiple ways of doing things the majority of the time. You can change up the way you take down a StarDestroyer in terms of sequence, but it requires that four simple things be done three of them coming first. Some elements of strategy make things a bit simpler, mainly dealing with approach angles, but that's it. It is firmly on the arcade side of the spectrum in terms of gameplay throughout, although the Battle of Endor level is my personal favorite from any SW shooter game ever(50-100 ships battling it out), overall its a straight forward arcade shooter.

Right now I'm playing through Splinter Cell, 007 Nightfire, and Metroid Prime...

In addition to Asheron's Call 2 on the PC.

Ahh, gotcha. Friend of mine was in the same situation, cept she was 18 at the time

Speaking of politics, I got into trouble over the holidays with my family over the whole cloning thing, cause I said since I won't be having a kid of my own due to various reasons (ruling out adoption, blah), I wouldn't be adverse to raising a clone of myself as a child. Anyways, not a political forum :p

Best of luck to you.. and take pictures when he's born! (but not goopy-born, blech!)

Heh. It's amazing how sensitive some people are about these things. Saying "I'm not having a kid, ever" is quite a bombshell to drop on your family though :p

I figured he'd want a PS2(since we have a Box and a Cube already)- he said he'd rather have a Cube for his room

Ben, do you blame the kid? If I was your son, I'd be terrified of even mentioning the word Sony in your house...

Actually, at the time it happened I laughed, shrugged my shoulders and said 'Sony'(my wife was telling me 'I told you so' about buying Sony).

See, see...

Well... hmm. I'm currently working on:

Metroid Prime
Legaia 2 Dual Saga
and some other random games that I decide to pull out of my gaming library.
