What are you playing?

Haven't had one of these in a while, and it seems like it would be a good time to list out anything you might have acquired in the last week.

For myself, I was given the JSRF/SGT2K2 disk that I wanted(that's it for gaming, although I've been wanting it badly). Loving 2K2, played JSRF for about an hour and I have to ask, wtf are you supposed to do?

My oldest son was raving about Kingdom Hearts which he played quite a bit at one of his friends houses, so I figured he'd want a PS2(since we have a Box and a Cube already)- he said he'd rather have a Cube for his room because Kingdom Hearts was the only good game he'd seen for the PS2(his words). So he landed a platinum Cube with MP4 and SMB2(along with mem card, and Wavebird). Grandma picked up Sonic Mega Collection for him along with MetoidPrime(a few days prior discussing the kids gifts- 'Mom.... we already have that'- 'But this one can be all his'- damn thing is she was right, he was psyched to have his own copy < shrug >).

I picked up my middle son a PSOne. Currently he only has a N64 and the games are too hard to find and too expensive to buy given his current gaming habits(he's four) and he is always asking for PSX titles when we are in the store. Picked him up GT2, Spyro and MegaMan8 along with extra controller and mem card along with EB's two year extended warranty($8, money well spent IMO). Take the thing out hook it up and the light for the system comes on and..... nothing. :devilish: :devilish: :devilish: Actually, at the time it happened I laughed, shrugged my shoulders and said 'Sony'(my wife was telling me 'I told you so' about buying Sony). The drive was spinning up and and the light was on so I was lost as to what was wrong. Just for the hell of it, I popped in a universal MadCatz AV cable I have lying around and it worked....? WTF? A dead AV cable? Apparently so. Brand new unit, unopened still sealed box, dead AV cable.

For the PSX I made the mistake of playing GT2K2 for a while and then firing up GT2... Did we really ever think that looked good? I imagine that it would seem just fine on a small TV, unfortunately the smalles TV in the house is the one in my bed room so GT2 is out for me(although he is having a blast with Spyro, far more then the Skeletor action figure I spent hours and hours upon searching for in store after store ;) ).

Really liking GT2K2, best new racer I've played in a long time. SMB2 looks a lot better then SMB in terms of visuals with the same gameplay, should be great from what I have seen. MarioParty4 hasn't done it for me yet, have to wait until we can get some four player action going though. JSRF I honestly have no clue what I am supposed to do(I did the part in the park, made it out to the city and painted everything I could find..... now what?).

So, what are you all playing? How did your holiday go?

Lately, Im going back to the classics..
my friends just got back online, so its been a nonstop
Diablo 2 LOD, Warcraft 3 and Starcraft fest(would play countestrike
but there is some bug in it with my Radeon 8500 that likes disconnecting
me mid game).

for consoles, I have been playing a LOT of Rallisport and Mechassault, playing around with Dead to Rights, playing through Metroid Prime on Hard mode now,(and trying to finish Fusion so I can unlock some stuff) and occasionally popping into Animal Crossing to see whats going on...

rented Splinter Cell, but after playing it and the PC demo, I think I am going with the PC version in January, the higher resolutions REALLY do that game justice, it really made my jaw drop.

Playing Splinter Cell and my typical Quake III right now..

When I finish SC, I'll probably go back to beating MP on Hard Mode and also Super Mario Sunshine and Halo.

Me, I'm just working my way through Neverwinter Nights. Then I have like a 20 game backlog of games I need to beat before I buy any new (significantly long) single-player games. Who am I kidding? I have a son due within a month or so, and I have a relatively-busy work schedule. I'll be lucky to beat NWN and finish Panzer Orta and DoAVB:X in mid-January

I'm also still playing a bit of Phantom Crash. Beat it a couple days ago, but I have a couple of matches yet to finish. And of course PSO every few days, steadily gaining levels as I do play... started WA3 and am about halfway through Shinobi as well... but when will I finish those? Who knows?

Still playing MP. I'm at 60% and am not gonna beat it till I'm at 100%. I am enjoying this game so much..I want to get everything out of it. I also rented Star Wars Bounty Hunter for Gamecube. I'm really liking it. The fmv by ILM is fabulous and the sound is incredible. Nice level design and with the jet pack it reminds me of SW Shadows of the Empire for N64. The 2nd level reminds me of Omikron for PC. Remember David Bowie's project? SWBH is actually agood game..8/10 for me.

Been also playing Zelda LttP with my 5 year old son. I must get another copy to play 4 Swords though. SMB Jr for GBA is the perfect GBA game btw. You guys must pick this game up. I'm also waiting on Karnaaj for my GBA to come in. I saw Dr. Muto for GCN for $19.00 at EB. Is it any good? I may pick it up if it's worth it. Everyone have a great new year..looks like it will even be a better one for games.

Dr. Muto is like any other platformer, it has enough of its own charm to be enjoyable, but in the end, its not that different than any other game you have played, its a good game all in all, definately worth $19

Haven't really been playing much of anything to tell you the truth.

I 'mastered' MechAssault (online) about a week after it came out and really haven't been compelled to play it since. No one seems to have the retail/unlocked tracks in MotoGP, so that's a huge disappointment. And I'm just too good at Unreal Championship :( (I've been competitively FPSing online since Wolf3D.. not being arrogant).

But the little gaming I have been doing has mostly been working my way through Final Fantasy X again, screwing around in Halo, and playing Rez the odd time I get festively high :D

I rented Maximo and strongly disliked it. First and formost I hate platformers (oops!), but I thought I'd give it a try for old times sake. My birthday is tomorrow and I have a gut feeling my buddy's going to get me Steel Batallion..... :D

ps: CONGRATS OZY! Picked out a name yet? (and, uh, aren't you like my age? [22])

Yeah. Tristan Scott I believe will be his name.

And yes, I'm 23. It was one of those "accidental" things... and my girlfriend is a bit... backwards, if you know what I mean. Of course, this isn't a political forum or anything :p

currently plaing through Metroid Fusion, very nice.

I gave up on SFA, the dino shooting sequences are artificially too much hard for my tastes.

just finished Eternal Darkness too.

I plan to try a little bit of WRC2 next week.

Ahh, gotcha. Friend of mine was in the same situation, cept she was 18 at the time

Speaking of politics, I got into trouble over the holidays with my family over the whole cloning thing, cause I said since I won't be having a kid of my own due to various reasons (ruling out adoption, blah), I wouldn't be adverse to raising a clone of myself as a child. Anyways, not a political forum :p

Best of luck to you.. and take pictures when he's born! (but not goopy-born, blech!)

I'm playing LOTR:TTT. Considering how crappy move -> game conversions are (and vice versa) I was pleasantly surprised how good and fun the game actually is. It never gets boring, which is a feat for itself for a game of it's kind. Several levels (most notably the last three) are also really good looking with tons of constant madness going on.

I'm also playing "Sam & Max Hit The Road" on my Pocket PC and it's sweet as hell. That was one of the few adventure games that I missed in it's time, and I'm catching up right now.

PSOne games for the most part look pretty bad on a big TV. Playing them on a small LCD is a whole other story, though. One of the few games I was really surprised with was MGS. That game still holds it's own, all things considered.

I know that this is the console talk, but I just have to plug Arx Fatalis. I have been playing it almost exclusively for the past 2 weeks and must say that it's the first game in years to really make me think (and get stuck ;)). It reminds me of the golden days of Ultima VII.

Stuck with SMW on GBA. Been playing too much of this game. I just discovered that by using all the warps and going through every level really fast, its actually possible to complete SMW in around 10 minutes or so. You can go through SMW 5 times in an hour. And went through it 30 times in a day.

Man am I bored :(

Well wish you guys Happy Xmast and New Year to you all :)

I'm going to say that's impossible. I've beaten the game 100% at least 10 times, and I can't think of a way to beat the game in less than 20 minutes. Even by just beating the 4 levels necessary to get out of the first island, then the 3 levels to beat to get to the star world, then 4 of the star levels, 1 level in bowser's world, and then the castle itself, I still see that taking more than 15-20 minutes.

Yeah I thought it was impossible also. Go try it, you'll be amazed. I've beaten SMW over 5000 times, and just discovered this speed out of my boredom in my holiday. I've remembered reading about it in one of the gaming mag yonk ago, but didn't belive it myself at that time. Now I feel really stupid for telling my friends it can't be done

Well back to holiday mode.

on the pc: erm, yeah, i know it's hardly a new game but anyways i never managed to play it during its original timeframe - rogue squadron. btw, a question for those of you who have played both rogue squadron and RL on the GCN - how much is the gameplay similar between the two? i'm a big space sim fan and i find the level of realism and complexity in rogue squadron rather low. ok, darn low.

on my console (dc): ikaruga (should have finished it months ago but had my big, meant-for-console-gameplay-only tv set non-functional for about 2 months)

on my clie (a palmos device): monsta. although the replayability of this game is close to 0, IMO, it's great fun playing it for the first time and trying to figure out what to do at each level. i'd be damned if i don't beat that game!
