Web Browsing Confirmed For Revolution

Question time

...Err, am I the only person who do not see the point of this? Other than the Marketing bulletpoint potential advantage.

I mean, anyone who can take the Revolution online, must have a Wifi connection, and not a lot of folks would have a Wifi connection without a PC/Mac.
And why would those people pay for what is a free browser, on the PC, that is not going to be easy to use on a TV and with no keyboard?

If it was a free browser, I'd say, why not, it would not be specially useful, but at least it'd be a free function.

I have HTPCs, so I do a lot of web browsing from the comfort of my couch. It's nice to have the option to be able to do that instead of being confined to a desk and a PC. The only problem I have with it is that the Rev is SDTV and maybe EDTV at best. I prefer to browse in HD. But it can't be any worse than browsing on a DS.

I thought the same thing as the others here. Browsing in EDTV = teh suck. Maybe games will be EDTV and the browser will be HDTV? That at least would be decent.

You people are stupid. Of course, even a child would realize that this feature's meant for those on the move who take their Rev and a TV down to their local McD or starbucks and like to surf and keep themselves updated while on the move!

...Errrrr... Or something like that anyway.

I don't really understand the point of this either, but I guess it won't HURT them having this feature. Since it's optional you only pay for it if you need/want it, so there's no real reason to dis it either. If you don't like, don't use.

I think this may be a nice feature to those how dont like much of the PC, those how dont understand much of PC (e.g. grand parents), those how want to save time (it should be much faster turn on/off etc... the Rev than the PC), those how think that a TV is more comfortable , etc...

A rev boundle (is this the name) with this at low price (max 150$) may have a good market.

I think that must people still making one mistake about Rev they think in games and gamers, but Nintendo dont want gamers and games anymore at least not as we know them.

And thoses would pay a monthly subscription fees to an ISP, for the broadband connection?

So they could offer this over the Nintendo wifi service for Revolution The app could be small enough to reside on the flash drive, then open it up whenever you want to use it just lke you would a game.

Why not? I didnt refer people how dont/will not like to do any kind of web browsing, plus this is not gaming so they can use relativelly low speed/cheap connections.

Anyway my main point is that for a lot of people this may be a better solution than using a PC, even for me I think I will prefer use this in, at least, a few situations (plus if it comes with a few features like voice recgnition/voice to text (like the patents) it may be a lot better and faster to use).

i have a friend who browsed the net, and was even an ebay junky, and used a dreamcast. this was since the dreamcast launch (1999) until about 2002 or 2003 when i gave him a clunky (300mhz, extreme power) computer build from stuff i had kicking around. people that would use this definatly exist.

i'm pretty surprised microsoft and sony haven't jumped on this. especialy microsoft, since they own the browser technology (wouldn't need to develop anything new or licences a browser) and webTV.

True, but in the case of the Dreamcast it's a tad different, all what was required was a functional telephone line.
Here you need a Wifi connection and to purchase the browser.

I guess it could be useful if you could download saves directly, like on the Dreamcast, or some sort of user content.

I used the Dreamcast to browse the web from 2000 to 2002 until I got a PC.

definitally a faster, more capable system than other internet appliances but by no means ideal because of the poor browser implementations that planetweb came up with. DC could have done much better, and it did with the Dream Passport series which is vastly superior in almost every respect (except for IRC)

I do, very much, see the market for this. using the internet on Revolution could bring in millions of people in Japan who do not use the internet because they lack a PC or won't use one. provided that Revolution itself is successful.

it all depends on the implementation.

Im pretty sure that all consoles would have the ability to perform at HD in 2D. As far as i know, games are SD only... so far. I know nothings been mentioned of this, it just doesnt seem unreasonable.

I wonder if Microsoft's thirst for HTPC sales outweights the disadvantage of not having a browser. Will we see a Xbox360 build of IE7?

Those who have DSL or FTTH in their home and can plug Rev/DS in LAN/WiFi are most likely those who already use internet via PC anyway.
