Verizon Fiber To The Premises

hmmmm... I'd want to know what latencies are like beofer I order.

Fiber is really only good up to about 10Km due to latency issues.

Considering DSL is really only good out to about 4Km, and that's with seriously reduced speeds, I think this would be a better solution. :)

I can hardly imagine there's no CO within 10km in NYC... :p

I wasn't really referring to just NYC, but to other places throughout the country.

That DSL fact is one that I didn't know.

Still don't understand somethin: what's the question?

Metropolises: OK
Cities: OK
Small towns: OK
Countryside: we have several national backbones - all they have to do is just make a connection to the nearest one. Obviously if your closest neighbor lives half an hour driving, you're not gonna get this service anyway soon.

Its only in limited areas.
There was a blurb about this on Ars a couple weeks back.
In Texas, if you live in Keller/Dallas area, thats one of the places its offered.
Anyone who gets it is a lucky SOB.
I pay $50/month now for 768/128...

Actually no: we called them and the things is this is going to be available in and around any major city by the end of this year.
We asked about NYC and it's going to be offered in Dec.

I pay $77 for 1.5/768 - I forgot to upgrade to 6.0/768 for only +$20 a month ago... o_O

Hmmm... who knows, maybe it's better this way: I won't be commited by next January - I can swtich over to Verizon's Fios 15M/2M for LESS!

6M for $97

Here, i only pay 30€ for 6M DSL, and the offer include voice over ip (Telephony for free, except calls to foreign countries and cellphones, of course), and a few television channels (Via xDSL).

The 15M/2M sounds very good, though. :D

I was talking about immediate availability.

Not bad.. some $50...
How is your upload?
Mine includes 4 fix IPs, Fileshack Mercury account and really good latency everywhere...

I'll agree that the upload is not terrible ~400, and for the latency/ping, it's up to my choice, i mean that i can set (online) my DSL line to Low ping, using fastpath, (~10), or leave it to normal (~30).

And, i must admit that that the 4 fix IPs that offers your ISP is an excellent thing. All the advantages of the fixed IPs, and (almost) none of its disadvantages.
