trying to understand GPU numbers...

As I read, Xeon can do 48 ALU ops (one per shader??), and that means 5 float ops and 2 madd.
Is estimated, though, that RSX can do 52 GPU ALU ops. Why? If it only has 8 vertex shaders and 16 pixel shaders?

So, Xeon has 1 ALU per PS ?
Yes. However, bear in mind it's texture units are decoupled unlike RSX. RSX uses an ALU up on texturing so where textures are involved, it has the same single ALU per PS relative performance. Also remember that Xenos can bring 48 ALUs to shading with all three arrays on pixel shading and none on vertex shading, if your load can support that.

I wish I can understand all this mumbojumbo, is there any place where I can read and learn about what all this stuff means? Like a gpu for dummies?

I just know that we'll get some fantastic looking games next gen from both ps3 and 360.

Just to verify something. Does each of the RSX's shader pipelines have TWO mini-ALUs just like the G70? I'm curious to know if this has changed (increased or decreased) or has stayed the same.

so.. what is reallt a shader op ??
Some time I saw a web page that talked about RSX alus and this kind of details. I can't find it.
do you guys know any place I can read and learn more about this??

thank you
