Toronto Protests

So if you guys have been following the news there were some major G20 protests in toronto over the weekend. Stores destroyed, cars burned, very gta ish.

Question is: what are they protesting? Sometimes I get the protest, i.e. the protests that followed Israel's flotilla raid, but in this case I'm just scratching my head. With the flotilla there was a clear objective in mind namely to end the blockade of gaza but with this the aim seems to be to much more abstracted. To end capitalism, or protest globalization in general. What solutions are the protesters proposing to solve these problems with capitalism or globalization? Whats the better system they are proposing? From my POV it all seems a little bit ridiculous.

tl:dr: I don't get why people were blowing shit up and I want somebody to explain it to me.

TO STICK IT TO THE MAN, MAN! DON'T YOU GET IT? THEY'RE FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT AND WORKING TO EMPOWER THE PEOPLE!

EDITED BITS: Please give us back the option of short posts in all caps for dramatic/humorous effect!

Stupid people do stupid things.

Basically there's thousands of people doing peaceful demonstrations about various things and then you have these "black block" retard anarchists running around trying to do damage.

I don't know why the police let it get as far as it did on the first day (blah blah job was to secure the perimeter, I know but they had the capacity to do both). The second day they didn't mess around and put down any stupidity pretty quickly, singling out idiots with weapons wearing masks and arresting them before they started anything.

The protests are against further consolidation of power in the hands of the few people who think they are entitled to rule the world.

As you can see in many places online, peaceful protesters were beaten and arrested massively for absolutely no reason (no, not the few guys who burned cars etc.).

EDIT: vids from the scene

Here you can see the police attacking peaceful demonstrants and journos:

Getting arrested live:

Here's some more impressions:

er the first video is some morons walking around being annoying for 10 minutes, I hope the hell they got arrested and beaten at some point, but if you could single out when it happens I'd like to see it.

Duh, should I watch it for you? That's the least you can do.

Though after seeing your comment, don't bother, go watch some more football.

Well he never gets beaten, does he? At least not on video, hopefully someone had a rubber hose in the detention center cuz after watching about 6 minutes of him I was certainly ready to go to work on him.

Moron walks around with bullhorn trying to provoke police finally gets his wish, news at 11.

And if by football you mean world cup, I can't stand to watch that anymore than the idiot in the video although the sound of the vuvuzela's is slightly less annoying than him.

Basically hoodlums using a flimsy pretense of protest in order to get their jollies off destroying things.

That's nonsense. There were over 10000 people demonstrating (peacefully) there. Bare the few chaos idiots whose job it is to create circumstances for the police to get in.

And as said, while most of you are more interested in football or whatever such, the destiny of our financial systems is being decided there, of course as always for the banks and against the people. If you had anything but hot air in your head, you'd be there protesting too.

BTW why is this in general and not in RPSC?

Yeah, that covers roughly 99.99% of all of the violent protestors.

Xxx's waffling bullshit about protesting about the supposed cabal ruling the world is just his usual madcap ravings, that's not at all the driving force behind these people. They have no greater purpose behind their behavior.

They are vandals who get a kick out of wrecking stuff and causing trouble. NOTHING MORE. Like, soccer hooligans for example; the game is merely a lame excuse to start fights. Same thing here.

Sure, vandals... but arresting a bunch of peaceful people on no charge and keeping them detained over night and molesting them is just fine. Also they were entitled to beat and arrest anyone coming closer than 5m to the blocades.

Yey for freedom and democracy. More football please and give people stronger beer so they can destroy even more brain cells quicker.

But of course there is no "cabal" ruling the world, how did I just come up with that? These people are of course also nutjobs like me I guess:

Move on, everything is just fine...

It's also quite easy to film "police brutality" against "peaceful protesters." Basically don't turn on the camera until AFTER you've provoked a reaction. Thus you'll always have on film a guy that "did nothing" getting his arse handed to him. Hell, mace a cop, and quickly drop the mace and hold up your hands like, "Whoa, why is this guy attacking me." And have your buddy start filming the cops partner knocking him down and cuffing him.

Careful filming and even strategic editing of video can make pretty much anyone look like a villain.

I've watched plenty of live video, most of the arrests I saw were of people that charged police lines or threw something at them. Some were people who refused to move back from the police line after being warned repeatedly. And then you've got your moron who spent all day annoying people by spouting off random bs on a bullhorn and provoking police.

I'm sure there were some people detained who didn't deserve it, but that's really just more example of the mob idiots ruining for everyone else. The vast majority of protesters were never detained.

I wonder how long it would take _xxx_ to call police if you followed him around with a bullhorn.

I really hate to side with xxx .... I really do, but a lot of the protesters are peaceful and I saw a lot of disturbing video of police aggression. Now, the protesters may or may not be complete idiots, but that doesn't justify cops rushing groups of people sitting peacefully on the ground. It's too bad all the violence gets the news coverage and you never actually get to hear about what these people are protesting. The news would rather just show us the same video of a burning car over and over and over again. God forbid they actually do some real journalism and interview some people about their motivations.

Those black block guys, or whatever they're called, deserve some serious beatings as far as I can tell. I wouldn't have minded seeing the citizens gang up on them and run them out of town.

Actually here in Germany there were multiple instances where people chased the black block idiots away or isolated them so there is some distance between them and the peaceful rest. Also because there are often a few agent provocateurs in there and people know and expect it. Doesn't always work though.

See what the G20 did? This guy couldn't get into the Eaton Center.

It's pretty unfortunate that a city of 2.5million people has only the one mall. And I think the window licker may have been more disappointed, but lacked the higher function to express it.

Here's a vid of the scum getting caught on one other occasion. Just watch how they flee behind the police lines.
