Toronto Protests

Yeah, I've seen that one. The first time I saw it, I was not surprised but I was incredibly offended that the police would do that.

Two of my good friends were actually arrested in these protests. They didn't do anything in particular they were surrounded by cops and then sent off to jail. They were freed about 6 hours later, here's a video he recorded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5a8sHOlNGo

They are thinking about filing a class action suit against the city because they feel they were arrested for no reason.

Ya that'll happen. Exactly how much is being detained for 6 hours worth? And remember this isn't the US you don't get to sue for punitive damage. Pay a lawyer $5k and they might manage an official apology for their cost.

Maybe you should tell us how much such a thing would be worth in your case, should it ever by any chance happen to you? The fact that you get arrested and detained at all, regardless of duration.

I'll keep you posted.

The point is a class action lawsuit isn't really going to be profitable for anyone but the lawyers.

Huh? I was asking you to imagine the situation and how you would cope with that, as a purely theoretical case. I don't believe you'd be as comfortable about it if it would happen to you.

Preventive arrest is highly illegal in a civilized society, that's a simple fact of life. Though several governments shit on that obviously.
