The Rumor Roundup

ATI have previously said that the West Coast team is the fastest growing element of ATI - with the recent move to larger offices and the influx of people that i know of, this certainly seems to be the case. I'm increasingly of the opinion that the West Coast team will now be primarily for desktop PC designs, while the East Coast team will do special projects and stuff like chipsets/integrated at othertimes.

As for R500, i think it will probably share the same basic platform as the xbox, in terms of ALU design philosophy, but its design will be more tailored to the diversity of pc titles, while the xbox chip will be configured very closely to the requirements of a closed box system.

WRT Nintendo I'm increasingly getting suggestions that it may be the same platform as xbox2. I floated this past someone who follows this industry very closely a year ago and he didn't warm to the suggestion then, curiously he seems to be getting a little convinced by it now.

Now the real battle will be in the 200€ vid cards, and i don't see rumors about cut down versions of R420/NV40.
nVidia should be releasing those around the fall. Dunno about ATI.

i've suggested this in the console forum .

Would make the most sense and would decrease the cost of the tech for both companys

meaning the same basic VPU family or generation? because I doubt that Xbox 2 and GCN2 are one console.

Cool more portuguese people. :D
It is a shame for us need to wait more than them .

It is more or less this ( my english is bit poor )

NV40 stuff:

-developers told to use 500W power supply's in their system
-dual molex connectors (ala XGI Volari Duo)

Isn't it dangerous to have that much power going to your AGP slot? What's the lifespan on a chip constantly using that much power (is failure at all related to power draw on a component?)

I guess its also possible that after another respin they will have power issues reduced. This makes it seem that they currently have a deal with the electric company :D

I was floating the MS+Nintendo merger last year. It's a perfect marriage. Nintendo was (maybe they still are) the only company making money on hardware. They have the most experience making money on console hardware period. Microsoft knows how to make money in software (and how!). They compliment each other nicely.

Pah, that's a push over, I have to learn Cantonese. Suddenly the way you say the word changes what the word is and you don't have letters anymore, you now have some characters that look rather like drawings.

Oh, my head. :?

I rather liked the whole "double-pumping" idea, sounded like a rather grounded idea.
