5 KG!?!?! according to http://www.playstation.com.au/ps3/
I don't think even my computer weighs that much.

how much does the 360 weigh with the external psu?inefficient said:Perhaps they should have taken a kg off like this instead?
Why, what'd be the point? It would actually have made the whole package even heavier, considering you'd need a second casing with metal EMI shield (and in this case - fan), plus a thick power cable to connect PSU to console. Having PSU internal actually reduces weight.inefficient said:Perhaps they should have taken a kg off like this instead?
Never seen the Coolermaster Hyper-6 then? 995g, without fans.Guden Oden said:Considering even the biggest copper x86 CPU heatsinks out today weigh considerably less than a kilo they would have to be pretty damn hefty to make up for that weight. The heaviest ones I've seen seem to hover around 750g or so.
Perhaps much, or most of the casing itself is metal, acting as a passive sink, who knows. Die-cast alu or magnesium alloy, that'd be awesome...!
Anyone care to weigh that brick?inefficient said:Perhaps they should have taken a kg off like this instead?

MS has an official number for the weight of the main unit (3.2kg), but not for the power brick AFAICS.

Yeah, that's really odd. There can't be many better things to do with one's timeTitanio said:I'm surprised no one has actually weighed the system+powerbrick and come up with a total weight.
Well, there are always exceptions... Coolermaster has never been making the most efficient gear anyway. I don't think it performs almost twice as well as Zalman's new socket-M sink for example which weighs around 550g including fan IIRC.Rys said:Never seen the Coolermaster Hyper-6 then? 995g, without fans.
We've already told all possible Cell/PS3/Grid = Skynet jokes; you're too late man.Megadrive1988 said:PS3's must be hardened against nuclear EMP attack ;P
can't have all of those connected PS3-CELLs getting fried. there will eventually be 120-150 million PS3s worldwide, that's a ****load of computing power which will be used to simulate and fight World War IV

Still, a 3kg PSU would knock the idea of copper heatsinks on the head.
