Ok, while we are still off topic. I used hacked audigy2 drivers on my audigy 1 and now I am able to do all 3 sound tests.

Sorry to take this off topic. Ichneumon, I saw that you were able to run the 3rd sound test and are using an audigy. Are you using an audigy 2? I'm using an audigy 1 and get the message that it is not supported. Has anyone been able to get the 3rd sound test to run using an audigy1?

I have an audigy-1 & I only head sound once. I do not know which test it was, but my speakers did "pop" once.

Heh, not to continue this OT in this thread... but I thought the soundstorm audio on my Asus A7n8x Deluxe sounded like arse. So I got the Audigy2.

Yes, the audio quality of the Audigy line is FANTASTIC even on subpar speakers like mine...

Sucks that I can't use one in my system...

Then just use the newest audigy 2 drivers on the creative website.

Did you use it with headphones? The problem of the soundstorm is that it doesn't offer a "real" headphone output - the output is strictly line-out, so the sound coming directly from the lineout using headphones sucks.

Anyway, the nForce is meant to be bundled with a HiFi-DD-Receiver - the AC3-encoding is really amazing.

Agreed - lucky enough to have mine hooked up to a decent system (NAD/B&W/REL) and the very small trade-off in terms of analog fidelity when compared to some of the entry-level pro cards (from M-Audio, Terratec etc) is well worth the added functionality in terms of gaming/software flexibility. Nice to have DVD-A support, but I've found that even 44.1/48k content sounds great when upsampled to 24/96 using foobar2000. Multichannel output is better than any <$500 receiver I have heard, although it could do with a little more in the way of per-channel EQ/level control and bass management.

I am still testing my Acoustic Edge.. the positional sound in games is absolutely amazing.. never heaard anything of its quality even using crappy 4 speakers and a sub. The only problem is the performance hit!! Hope Philips sorts that out in a long due driver release.

I tried to test my 8500 at 1.1, but at game test 3 it hangs up every time with the Catalyst 3.1 drivers at least. Haven't had time to figure out if I can get around it yet.
