The hottest pirated games.. PS3 still "safe" ?

PC games are by far the most downloaded titles, with on average more than three times the number of downloads compared to Xbox 360 and Wii releases. Overall, the number of downloads of the top titles in each category is slightly lower than last year. The platforms that are not mentioned, such as the PS3, get considerably less downloads and are excluded for that reason.

More or less. From what I understand Sony did some remarkable scrambling to re-secure the system. Games released prior to the jailbreak can be pirated if you stay on the older jailbroken CFW, but new games use a new set of secure credentials. Most piracy is interested in hot new releases and I'm assuming the 360 has remained the preferred console piracy platform because of that, and various other reasons.

PS4 security won't be as piracy resistant when BRD burners are commodity items; they'll avoid torrents but the old-skool disc piracy will return. Still, it's a big win for Sony this gen and paves a path for future hardware design from all vendors.

Yeh from what I've heard (Read, I read an internet comment, probably about this story) PS3 piracy is "easy". I'm really not sure why it wasn't on torrentfreaks list.

Even if as I expect the numbers are 1/10 the others or something, I still want to know the numbers!

I think the implication is that the PS3 numbers are considerably less than the top three, more like 1/100 of the rest.

Man I'm so glad Crysis 2 was also released on console, if they only relied on pc then it might have been the end of that series which would have been a damn shame.

From my understanding they are using CFW based on older FW ala 3.55. Then they have to patch the games that needs a higher FW to get them running.
Looks like most upgrades between 3.55 ish and newer are none game stuff, since it seems trivial to patch games to run them on 3.55

You need to have a PS3 not higher than 3.55 otherwise hardware flashing is needed to downgrade which isn't possible on the newest model anymore.
But with a 3.55cfw you can only play games up to 3.56 and a few higher ones that got patched or buy a new dongle and play some additional 3.60 games as well but even for the dongle you still need a PS3 with 3.55

And 3.55 PS3's won't play online, elliminating the majority interest in games like MW and BF3. I suppose wWhatever measures can be done to get around that are sufficiently complex to deter the casual opportunist pirate, keeping PS3 piracy very low.

What's needed to run pirate games on XB360?

For XB360 piracy, you have a couple different options...

The newest DVD drive model is not yet publicly hackable since they changed the encryption used on the firmware.

On older DVD drives, a custom DVD-firmware that required a couple of updates recently. Now it also requires some of the pirated games to be redumped and burned in order to bypass the newest set of protection. It also requires custom firmware on a specific brand of burner in order to burn the full disc info.

A custom piece of hardware which emulates the DVD optical drive. You must extract out the original DVD firmware key which requires anything from a simple connection to the PC to read all the way up to cutting some circuits on the DVD PCB or bypassing certain aspects of it.

A JTAG'd console running custom firmware and dashboard. This has gotten to be easier ever since the Reset-Glitch-Hack.
