The Getaway 3

Wow, that does look mighty impressive. I really hope the next Getaway can pull this off... the immersion is also quite impressive because the camera is much lower and you really sense the size of this city.

I think that I'll buy this game just to go for a walk to London. It looks like really amazing, mostly reflections , lighting and shadows.

Where's the HUD? This is not ingame! Is it realtime? Is it a realtime cutscene? Is it a cookie? huh?huh?huh?

It's a comic book scan, i tell u.

What do you guys make of the "Cell only" comments made about the Getaway E3 demo? (i.e. the demo was rendered entirely with Cell alone). Does it hold any validity at all?

Somehow I doubt it...

The E3 demo was quite limited, so it all depends on whether you think Sony are lying bastards or not.
This trailer is much better looking and has more going on than the E3 demo so i guess they've been working with the GPU too since the first demo.

Beautiful CGI. Doesn't really matter what cpu was used to render it. A 486 can render that given enough time. If optimized I think the the cell would be very fast offline renderer. These new sony Demos look great but Ive seen very little gameplay from any of them aside from warhawk. I definitily feel a fall 2006 launch is gonna happen now. Spring in japan.

 Let the war begin.

I don't think we'll ever have decent threads on here until these games are actually released, there will always be 2 factions, the "it's realtime!" and the "it's CGI" sides will always fight it out until they have the game running in front of them. And even then they'll bitch.

This trailer looks better than the E3 presentation (though I'm not sure if this is real-time, though it seems that way). But if I remember right, the E3 presentation was not really there to showcase PS3's graphical capabilities. But rather to showcase Cell's power for other task such as "complex" simulation, AI, etc. BTW, the lack of HUD doesn't necessarily mean it's not real time (or vise versa) as the Getaway is not known for it.

Base on lack of gameplay footages? Doesn't that mean a fall release for Japan as well because they also haven't showed any game footages of any Japanese title(s)?

Anyway, I hope the next installment don't end up too realistic. That's one of the biggest flaw of the previous games, IMO.

Hmmmm, it doesn't bode well for PS3. If some factions are to be believed every PS3 dev is wasting their time creating offline renders instead of actually writing computer games. We won't have any games to play (but maybe a good few Hollywood releases)

I think the reason that nothing has been playable is because they haven't finalized the controller yet. They don't want people playing the games with a concept controller, I don't think, and watching people play games is boring :D

I'd bet that the PS3 will be playable at CES in January.

The demo doesn't look like CGI (IMHO). Also...being a DEMO..it doesn't mean that all this time they've been working on that one DEMO. There probably working on the game engine itself and show you that DEMO as a quick look into where the Getaway team is currently at. Theres a general misconception that a DEMOs a DEMO and has no relation to the actual game. It seems as though people think that development on these games hasn't even started yet because their to busy releasing Demos.

Sony promised playable demos at TGS, also they have said they are launching in spring, that's march-may, that 6-9 months. They should have a few playable games by now.

Uhm why? Cause you say so? Do you own 51% of Sony's shares by any chance to be making demands?

I think they should also. Either development is lagging (coming from the cynic in me) or there holding out for a flood of media after the 360 comes out. I'm currently betting on the flood of Media. Its a Sony tactic thats been done over and over again. If these are Real-Time DEMOs then their should be some games that are in playable form (Gundam, Sonic and others). I would personally like to see them myself.

Although i'm confident in the fact that the PS3 will come out on schedule. All the confidence that Sony is exuding should be a sign. I also dont' think its a bluff...you bluff..but you should only take it so far.

See now that's what i'm talking about.

Why show u lots of stuff now when they have the X360 release week to do that?

That's what they do.

No they didn't. Kutaragi simply and only said that there may be playable demos at TGS.

Anyway, really nice demo. It'll be interesting to see how cities "work" in games like GTA, and The Getaway etc. next-gen. I'm wondering if they're reusing some of the PS2 The Getaway assets for this demo? It seems that way to me, in places at least, but the quality of the rendering brings everything up a lot. And apparently this is just a tech demo, so it wouldn't make sense to make new assets only for that.
