Swapping HDD's in my PS3 - backup utility and other related Q's

Hi guys, does anyone know the reason for this? I swapped out my 40gb hdd for a 250gb hdd. After restoring with no problems my system says I have 178 of 237gb free. How does my restore of a 40gb ps3 now take up 59gb?
 
A 250GB HDD is actually ~238GB. The PS3 reserves ~12% of the HDD. The rest is taken up by the files you restored from your old HDD.

Ah, yeah I knew that a 250gb hdd is only nominally 250, I wasn't aware of the 12% thing.
