Sony's Feb. Event Speculation (still alive and kicking)

I heard alot of talk before last years E3, that because Sony said nothing about the PS3 and it's specs leading up to E3,that they MUST have NOTHING to show. They couldn't have been more wrong. I would say until Sony prooves otherwise, it's OK to beleive them.
This kind of thinking is lazy. There's no critical thought in "just believing" nor is it terribly interesting. The lack of information could be indicative of many things, one of which could be "things are not in order". They could also be indicative of Sony doing a good job keeping a lid on things.

It also smacks of selective memory. Sony had announced a press event (overlapping Microsoft's, if my memory isn't selective) and I think many people expected something there. Sony did a good job generating the feeling of being further along in development than they actually were at this event, but I don't think it's accurate to say, "No one expected anything at E3."

I found this at the official Playstation forums

At my local mall, where the whole santa thing gets set up, there is this HUGE thing being put together. Today I asked one of the workers what they were building it for, and he said "It's for that new Playstation thingy." (He was like 60+ yrs old, just FYI) So hopefuly it is for the PS3, and others will see these in thier malls also.

***UPDATE*** 2/3/2006

They finished the kiosk today and there is a tarp-like thing attached to a square frame around the top and bottom of the kiosk that reads "Your PS3 information center, coming 2/28/06. Welcome Chang3" So it is definitly for the PS3 I am guessing it will have all the info that is realesed at the Playstation Conference in Feb.

If this guy is telling the truth, then we're on the verge of massive PS3 promotion by sony.

I guess we will find out on the 28th, or maybe sooner. Hopefully :/
What city/mall did he say? maybe someone else can confirm it?

edit:
ah i see later in the thread
Capital City Mall in Camp Hill Pennsylvania
I'm no where close, maybe somebody else here?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the guy is full of it. Who doesn't have a digital camera, either standalone, on a phone, or on a friend? His response is "I don't care if you don't believe me" and then follows that up by bumping his thread.

Yea it sounds kinda odd there, people in the thread actually called the mall in the thread and recieved no information about this display at all. The guy reporting all this does have almost a year on the forums and seems to be sticking to his guns though.

All this lack of info offically from sony is kinda buggin me out I guess, I would just like to have some real news for a change.

In other words 28th it is then and its pretty much solid info as i see it.
I wouldnt say solid info by far, but its the usual info. I guess we just wait and see.

Was a little to fast and did read the whole thread pretty fast!
But it seems to match the dates with Devstation etz so there will be hopefully be quite alot to discuss on this boards the coming months now.

Interesting and personally looking forward to this very very much myself.

maybe motherH was thinking of devstation?

since ign and other sites quoted motherH,it's been "no comment" on everything related to ps3.

as devstation is an announced conference, motherH can talk about it.

I don't think you could consider DevStation 'a trip abroad' for these guys. And, Destination Playstation is for retailers, so it wouldn't make much sense for them to be there...who knows though?

Yep, that Sony meeting on monday afternoon was the same one referenced by Cory Barlog it seems.

And since KK is in SF for ISSCC, seems more than plausible.

When Sony finally does release some info, the internet is going to implode.

Just like they planned.

I find it hard to believe that a company that has been so /on/ for so long with its marketing and promotion has just... vanished for no reason at all.

You don't appreciate a glass of water very much when you're used to getting several a day, but a drop in the desert...
