A cell phone as big as the PSP, no thanks.

Its a bad idea but..... does the proportions in those look odd or is it just me? That thing looks like three inches thick.

I think it's just a matter of making the pic easier to understand :) After all the patent pics are just means to give you an idea how it could work, the actual implementation might look different

We have some phones a lot like that at work btw, and if I'm not terribly mistaken such rotating displays are especially popular in Asia (Korea?).

just because they filed a patent doesnt mean there will be a product, just that they have though about it. Remember the Cell based "Visualizer" - Did it end up in the PS3?

Shifty Geezer would buy one.
Why would I buy one? I don't have a mobile phone and have no intentions of getting one, and have already expressed my disappointment with PSP having used one for a few weeks. It doesn't have the online gaming experience I was expecting, because the software isn't there.

If there's ANYTHING I'd want from a dedicated gaming portable, it's to not mix in so many other features as to become rediculously overpriced, or negatively impact the gaming.

Certain things can be mixed in easily (If it has powerful chips and a good screen, why balk on the media playing capabilities? If it has built-in wireless, why not toss in whatever wireless communicating you want?), but other things should either come in "expansion device" form, or not at all. If they can fit it all in without impacting the form factor, price, and quality of gaming, however...

Current phones already have a stock of games, minor or not, to choose from to amuse yourself with if you want. (Heck, I can play a pretty spiff version of Zuma on an iPod if I want.) But those are differently-focused devices that have some games for merit of having chips, screen, connectivity and storage; they're not impacting THEIR primary purpose, either. There's no reason to clutter up your handheld if the #1 purpose IS gaming...
