Sony announces 45nm Cell for PS3

Yesterday in The Guardian, David Reeves of SCEE was quoted:

We're always looking at ways to reduce costs, replacing the current 65 nanometre Cell chip with a 45 nanometre one probably in middle of year.

I take it that's mid-2009, fairly well in line with earlier predictions.

This was stated plainly by Oneida during Sony's most recent quarter conference call:

The chip itself was presented at ISSCC earlier last year:

I imagine they'll launch a new revision around the chip as soon as they've run down stock of existing 65nm Cells, which of course, will depend essentially on the rate of console sales between now and then.
