I'm not sure what the trip is with VIA chipsets. I think they design them for raw (as in cheatworthy) speed and then wind up with problems all over the place.
I've been much happier with my Iwill XP333-R (ALi) than my KR7A in terms of stability and lack of stuttering in games. Sure it's a bit slower in benchmarks, but I'll take no stutters over 5% higher peak fps with stutters anyday. YMMV.
