OpenGL guy,

Regardless of whether or not you work at a given company's janitorial services...
dsuiko, no need for such ill-mannered replies, regardless of whether you know what position OpenGL Guy is in at ATI.

Reverend,

Right, won't happen again. :) I really don't know his position at ATI, but just assumed that since he's been cleaning whatever ATI-related post he felt had dirt. :)

Everybody is a fan ....

Be it sports, racing ..whatever..being a fan is not a bad thing as long as the 'fan' can me open minded.

Even I am a great fan of...

...

.... classic version of Mini (Morris / Austin) Cooper S. ;)

Alec Issigonis and John Cooper surely did a wonderful car.

OpenGL Guy, just a last bit of clarification : As said before I do not see this as a bad thing at all, I think its excellent and something any company would and should have done. When I said hack or trick or whatever it might have a bad undertone but in this case its pretty much irrelevant since these are not final or release drivers. I used the word hack or tweak because I assume (yes, assume) that R300 has drivers in a quite early state and thus some of the things implemented might very well have been quick solutions to whatever the problem was. Such quick solutions are usually not the real final right thing to do and are thus referred to as hacks or quick fixes. Which is all fine in this situation. I just wanted to paint the image of stress a bit that the OpenGl guys must have gone through to get things working as they did, at the same time I wanted to avoid that some fan boys get excited and think that everything must be rosy and final and done because this one title ran great. So in summary this was a special situation and this special situation called for special measures and actions given the time schedule and importance of the demo, non of this is bad... its actually very good.

The End... I hope

K~

Regardless of whether or not you work at a given company's janitorial services, it's no excuse for taking anyone's words out of context and then accusing them of bias/company-hater. Kristof was simply saying what he thought ATI did to run Doom III at the speed they wanted.

And yes, he said 'tweak,' not hacks or cheats - you brought that up in some inferiority-complexed cry blabber. I really don't see how you got all riled up over 'tweaks.' Tweaks = Good. Anyway, I think you are just too hypersensitive over the most minor comments towards ATI. Anything near the affect a Dog breaking wind toward's ATI will spark your redlights.

Let me refresh your apparent short memory:

I have to agree with Wavey... What was he exactly comparing to what ? Did ATI put all its effort into making this one app run (full of driver hacks/whatever) to grab full PR for a product they have not even announced ?

See: http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1101&start=4

Now, dksuiko, maybe after you take your foot out of your mouth (or keyboard in this case) then you can think about your own future in garbage disposal.

I think I can understand his annoyance, seeing as I believe he works on the opengl drivers...

Sorry, I guess I overreacted. I was pretty excited about the whole thing (the demo I mean) and didn't want people to rain on my (and ATI's) parade :)

The End... I hope

Ditto.

I already did, they rejected my application! They said I forgot to read parts of the application, I wonder why. :)

Nyah, Nyah...I figured it out before you did. ;) Now someone tell NVNews...

I had posted a link to the first article which was published on May 1. While I knew of that article when I posted the link to the article published yesterday, I couldn't recall the URL to the May 1st article since a glitch with News Publisher caused a loss of data in our news history file.

After reading the latest article, I recalled that it was strikingly similar to the first article which led me to use the word "reiterated" in the news post :)

However, I'm going to e-mail the author to find out why the same story appears in multiple publications and on different dates.

What makes your Geforce 4 so special ?? Many review sites show more than a 50% hit ?? Its been proven, Direct 3D games still take a huge hit.

Updated drivers.

I must say I have a pretty good idea of who's a fan of which company from this thread however! :)

I'm a fan of low prices as I'm a student :D

Chalnoth takes a 36.6% hit from 8x which is a considerable improvement over the 60%+ hits that previous drivers got.

Doomtrooper you've got 20% for 8500 :-? I get 7.4% hit for 16xaniso.

How about Direct3D games like Max Payne or Dungeon Siege ??

Don't have 'em. Neither do I care much.

You don't have ANY Dirrect 3D games or Benchmarks like 3Dmark

So because you don't own them, the problem doesn't exist.....I see

Can we not clutter this thread up with this please? If Chalnoth doesnt care to carry on comparing fine, if he does, can you start a new thread?

20% at high resolutions...1600 x 1200..see graph above, I checked and its right on the money :)
As for the drop in peformance I'd like too see a comparison of Anistropic QUALITY between the driver sets and see what Nvidia did to improve performance in OGL only, I don't think anyone has done this yet.

Clutter up this thread ?? He says his card doesn't take a huge hit with Anistropic. I'll ask what I want Randell..just trying to get the truth.

Can we not clutter this thread up with this please?

And can we please take a little care with out quoting - multiple nested quotes only waste database space, and I don't want to keep editing people posts! :-?
