R300 near ready for mass production????

Does anyone know what the typical number of revisions on a GPU are? (Not that I actually expect an answer, but you never know.) May this signal an early launch? I have heard rumors that the card was to be lanched anywhere from August to late fall. If this revision is all that is needed then we definitly will see it soon. On another note, may ATi release it before the launch of DX9? 8)

It could very well be ready for mass production. I remembered seeing this a few months ago. I think we may well see this card soon. :D

Interview with Club3D, Janita Willems

Reactor Critical: In fact, ATI Technologies is a main rival for NVidia. Their GPUs have good performance and even better than NVidia according to some test results. What do you think about it and what products of ATI will be offered with Club 3D on computer market?

Janita Willems: New solutions powered by ATI, such as the RV250 and the R300 will be announced during Computex 2002. Mass production is expected in August 2002, R300 will be announced a week after RV250. The RV250 GPU features integrated Hardware MPEG in the chip and also VIVO functionality will be implemented. R300 is expected to have three times higher performance compared to the competitors.

Well since that sure as hell didn't happen the validity of the whole statement is up in air.

Cut and pasted from another topic (lazy, lol):

The second revision arrived from the fab two weeks ago and solved a few problems regarding power consumption (the first card drew about the same amount as a GHz T-Bird across three rails). Performance estimates have been met though, so that's good news.

Carmack had the first revision for DOOM III. So yes, that was very much alpha hardware and alpha software. The AIW version may still need an external power supply, BTW.

MuFu.
